Gamecube Memory Cards?

Recommended Posts

Considering Nintendo's official memory cards cost $30 each, I was thinking about going to a third party. I was wondering if this was a good idea.

Are any of the third party memory cards good? I heard they tend to break a lot. : /

I've never tried third party memory cards with the GameCube, but, from my experiences with third party cards on the PS1 and PS2, I would certainly recommend you stay away from third party cards entirely.

I've honestly never encountered a third party card that actually worked. The systems would never recognize they were there. And if they did, the card would never hold a save.

Incidentally, does the Wii have GameCube memory card slots?

I think it does, yes.

As for 3rd party, it is generally a no-no. However I came across 2 or 3 of them from Hip Gear on clearance for $1, so I bough them. I use them as "travel cards" just in case I go visiting my buddies to play or whatever. No problems with them so far

I've got a couple official cards and a couple of 3rd party cards, and I haven't had any problems with any of them. In fact, I haven't ever had any problems with any 3rd party memory cards for any console. Maybe I'm just lucky (fat chance). I've got heaps of them for the Dreamcast, picked up dirt cheap, no problems.

I dunno, maybe I can find a first party one cheap somewhere?

I lost all of my stuff in the hurricane. I have to replace the controller I lost ($20) and the memory card (at least $20).

Its annoying, but I miss my games!

Me too but no problems with these two 1019 cards I bought when the Wind Waker was released and I bought my Game Cube. Were cheap, and they haven't lost any saves.

Hrmm, I usually hear bad stuff about Madcatz.

Gah. : /

I don't really trust AssCatz with anything very complicated, but it's not too hard to glue a flash RAM chip to a PCB.

I'm using an AssCatz and an Interact right now. Neither one's showing any issues, aside from not fitting into the spiffy memcard holders in the game cases.

I actually like the Pellican Memory cards, and have had no problems with them. And their hella cheaper than the GameCube official Nintendo cards ($5-$10 dependiong on how you get them) It's my primary card, so I'd say it's good.

I wouldnt, I had one erase on me, just get the wihite Gamecube memroy card. I've got over 50 games, and it holds all the saves, and I only used a tad over half of the space

I can't really afford it. :( I mean I can, but when you add the controller, the memory card, and game up, it adds up to a lot!

I could just wait for the Wii... But damn the urge to play is KILLING me. :(

True, it is expencive, but if you've ever had a memory card erase on you, it can be very rage inducing (it erased my SSBM and Mortal Kombat saves, along with a whole bunch of others). I wanted to get a game, but honestly, the memory card erasing on me has pretty much made me not play Smash Bros for a while because some levels took me all night to beat, and I just cant beat them again. But, the white card is incompatible with like 2 games, and I dont know which ones they were, nor do I remember them being good games

I've had nothing but problems with 3rd party cards on the GC. I had a hip gear one that kept erasing my F-Zero GX game. Now there is one where it gets annoying having to rebeat over and over. See if you can find one of the 1019s used at a Gamestop or EB. They go for $14.99. That's how I got mine.

I've never had a problem with ANY 3rd party card, however, if your paranoid something might go wrong, for the price third party cards are, get two, and copy all your saves. That way IF something goes wrong, which is highly unlikely, then you'll still have a backup.

The fact taht I've never had problems, and so many people seem to have, leads me to believe that their doing something to damage the card, or the save, such as chunking them, letting them ride in their pocket all day getting sweated on, or turning the game off befor it says save finished.

I can't realistically precieve of any reason for any solid state tech to go bad for the hell of it as so many people seem to let on.

If that was the case we would have the same problems with 1st party cards.

Not really, there's still the price factor, that tends to make people take a little better care of the first party stuff.

Well the 3rd party cards I had just stayed in the system and the system was never moved. My F-Zero saves would just corrupt whenever I would use the 3rd party cards.

I have used the MadCatz 59 card in the past and it used to only hold my Animal Crossing town on it. I never had any issue with it. I now have official 1st party cards. A 1029 and a 251.

The only 3rd party mem cards I have problems with so far were the ones for the DC...man...none of them made mem cards worth a piss if you ask me. I just had my High Performance one that had my Coaster Works save on it..just go South! Ugh...oh well...I do have a Nyko for the DC that has been very good and hasn't hosed up yet.

My FZero saves are on my Interact card. Where they will stay, since the game sets the damn read-only bit on the garage data so I can't move it.

It's yet to cause a problem.

I had the same F-zero problem now that you mention it

F-Zero is the only game save I've had go bad, and that was on both 3rd and 1st party memcards. It seems something about the FZGX data is unstable or something since I'm not the first person I've known to have the problem.
