APX Atari Microsoft Basic Cross-Reference Utility?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have this? There are some other small-machine Microsoft Basic cross-references available, but I have never found the APX version. It was in the APX catalog, and *did* exist. Thanks, Larry

Well, it's been a couple of years, so thought I'd try this again.

This is listed at the AtariArchives.com site. They have permission to post the software, but no one (evidently including the author) has submitted a working copy.

I did convert a general-purpose M-Basic xref utility to run on the Atari, but the results are not real great, and it would take a lot of work to make it work properly.

I've been looking on eBay for several years, but it has never showed up. So I'll try here again...

Yes, that's the one...

If you have trouble reading it, an XF551 has the best data separation of any drive I've ever tried.

Thanks for checking!

MBASXREF.zip

Actually, the XF551 has the worst drive mechanism of any drive... it read OK on my 1050.

Don't know what these files are - don't seem to be m/l. Do you have the instructions? Mine are buried - deep.

Terrific! No, I don't have any docs, but from a quick look-see, it appears that XREF is a title program which is chained to load X2 which does the actual work. I'll experiment a bit.

Presume that you wouldn't care if I send a copy to Kevin Savetz at Atari Archives. (Or perhaps you already have or want to yourself.) This is RARE -- presume that they sold very few copies of this. Thanks so much.

There are quite a few APX titles that Kevin has permission to put up, but can't find the software. And then there are a whole bunch of authors that can't be found. IIRC, that included Jerry White.

No, send it up.

I have permission from Ingrid Langvin to distribute her APX titles - something else on my list... The more we can save, the better.

I had a chance to play with the XREF today, and it appears to work as advertised.

Incidently, many common MSB programs can be converted quite readily to Turbo Basic XL or BXL/BXE -- much more easily than to 8K Atari Basic. I think that if you don't need String Arrays, then TBXL makes the easiest conversion.
