What year was 2600 Mangia' released? What are your opinions on this game?

Recommended Posts

I have a reproduction of this title and absolutely love this game. It's very unique in every way, and has very large characters for sprites. it is definitely an impressive title. It's ashame that it is so rare and not everyone has it to enjoy it.

It was definitely a game where alot of effort was put into.

Thanks for the info. on the release date CPU. Sorry to hear you thought that one sucked. My brother and I love playing this one together. I've never seen 2600 characters so big either.lol

The PAL one is easier to find and looks identical, that's what I currently have in my collection (Thanks Dino). I also own an NTSC Hozer repro. The game is OK but I havent played it in quite a while. I'd probably rate it a low six or high 5 out of ten mostly for originality.

For its time impressive graphically but game play, in a word, Disturbing! Mind you watching the kids stomach explode needs to be seen to be believed ;)

I just loaded the .bin file, and its different, thats for sure.

I don't know what I am doing with these pancakes,

I keep tossing them outside or on the floor.. then

the Table disintigrates. I lost.

I like it, it 's different to say the least

So you basically eat the pancake, toss it to the cat in the window or flip it to the dog right?

It's boring but weird enough for me to wanna play once in a while and maybe show off if someone comes over to hang out and we play some Atari

If anyone has it and hates it that much, I would buy it from you for a reasonable fee.

It has nothing on "Bobby is Going Home" in the terrible, bizarre games vein.

I have Bobby Geht Nach Haus (sp?) though I've only played it on emulation (TV won't accept 50fps). I'm not sure why you'd call it the "terrible bizarre games" vein. Sure, it's not great, but the graphics and music are serviceable. I suppose you could lump it with Mangia from the standpoint that both games have colorful graphics but dubious gameplay; Mangia's graphics are more interesting than BGH's, though.

So in playing this game some more and finally figuring out the mom can't be looking at you if you decide to flip some food to the dog or cat, it's not THAT bad as far as 2600 games go.

An original idea at least.

A few weird things are the score maxing out at 9999, though I doubt you could ever get that far, but it should let you "WIN" at that point

Also the table collapses after a while despite no food being on it. If you just pitch all the food to the animals, accepting the penalties, it's the same as not eating and letting the plates pile up too high. Seems weird and sounds like a bug though it's probably intentional.

Thanks for posting about this game. I got a kick out of it for a little while. Gonna see if I can load the .bin through the Super Charger and play on my real system. It's only a 4k rom.

There's good reason why this game is the rarest spectravideo game ....

Rare is an understatement. I've come across multiple versions of the other

rare SpectraVideo games, such as Bumper Bash, Gas Hog, Master Builder but never

a Mangia.

I only know personally of one guy who found an NTSC one in the wild. A collector in Cocoa Beach Florida found one in the dingy wet basement of a junk store.
