did smurfs appeal to you as a kid? (the vcs game)

Recommended Posts

I always wanted the smurfs game. I loved the show, toys, everything. also, I loved that the smurfs could talk to you.(on the commercials the smurfs talked to the kid lol) After I heard that I was convinced that the world was gonna have flying cars in a few years :rolling: anyways, I know that a lot of people like the smurfs games here so I'm just wondering if you guys loved them as a kids.

I was around 15 when I got the 2600 Smurfs videogame for my birthday. But yes, I did enjoy them. Part of the reason I have a Smurf collection.

I actually never really saw the 2600 version until the internet age! Go figure... I did see it listed in the back of magazines though in the ads.

That being said, the Colecovision version, now THAT appealed to me. Those were the best graphics I had could have ever happened on a home system to date :P

I had the ColecoVision version of Smurfs, and never had the 2600 version of Smurfs until well after. I didn't mind the CV version, but it was far too easy to remain challenging.

I wasn't really into Smurfs....I guess I liked the more violent cartoons and related games.

Same here. I remember seeing the CV version back in the day, and being amazed by the graphics.

I hated the Smurfs with a passion though. :P

My brother had this game when it came out. At the time, I was too young to understand how to play it. it was passed onto me around 1990, and I loved it. Very good game considering it's one of the earlier releases. Wouldn't want to part with it.

Yes, I dug those blue things back in my pre-job days. Recently, I sold all of my hard plastic Smurfs on eBay for far more $$$ than I would've imagined. So they all took a trip. See ya. I believe the Colecovision Smurfs game had an easter egg, too. The 2600 version didn't quite do it, though. "Is that Gargamelle or Smurfette?!?!" Blocky indistinguishable graphics and honks and farts for sounds. But I played the Colecovision game until I couldn't stand looking at it.

Useless trivia: the Smurfs were originally called the "Schtroumphs" (in Belgium, I believe) and trace back to at least 1965. Those critters have been lurking around for decades. Check out the Wikipedia article to fill your braincells with illustrious useful knowledge.

Put me in the group of people who didn't know there was a 2600 version until the Internet age! Didn't Coleco advertise the 2600 version? I've seen the TV commercial (on YouTube), but I guess it didn't get much play.

Anyway, I was jealous of the CV people because they had this game. Not so much because it was Smurfs, but because the graphics were so good. The 2600 does an amazing job of reproducing the CV version!

They're still called "Schtroumfs". That's what they're called in french.

I played the CV version a lot 20+ years ago, but I got tired of the game once I mastered jumping over obstacles correctly. For this type of game, I find Cabbage Patch Kids to be far superior, even if it doesn't add all that much to the formula.

I thought the graphics were pretty darn impressive, and yes, I loved the smurfs back then, the game's still good to this day too. I also have the CV version and it's pretty cool how close they got to it with the VCS.

Another one who was not aware of the VCS version until many years later. I still have my CV Smurfs game from when I bought it "back in the day", it was a game you could relax with as it was not too challenging and really had great graphics. I did prefer the Cabbage Patch Kids CV platformer for game play.

I never actually got into the Smurfs though.

If you were a teen in the 80s then you should have known about 2600 Smurf. It was heavily advertised in magazines and available in just about every store. If your store sold 2600 Donkey Kong, you can bet that Smurf was on the shelf as well.

Anyway, I hated the Smurfs but didn't care because the game looked so much better than anything else at the time. I must have been more flexible then, because as it stands today a Spongebob Squarepants game might be more exciting than Missile Command but I'd never know because I'd never deign to play the freaking thing. That game sold as many CVs as Donkey Kong did.

I'll be the first to admit that if I'd had a ColecoVision or a 2600, I probably would've had a Smurfs game. We all like things as kids that seem remarkably silly or childish in retrospect, but the one thing I have going for me is that I actually had enough of an evil streak to feel SYMPATHY for Gargamel. No bullshit - just once I actually wanted him to catch a Smurf and turn it into gold, particularly an obnoxious one like Jokey or Lazy. I always felt the same way about Sylvester too - damn shame he never got to eat that insufferable Tweety Bird. I TAWT I TAW A... {*GULP*} ... you taw NOTHING bitch.

I had Smurfs: Rescue from Gargamel's Castle as a kid and it is still one of my favorite games for the 2600. i'm surprised to hear some reviews on the game where so many people couldnt get into the game because of the jumping mechanics.....i seemed to pick it up pretty good as a kid.....i loved that game......and that smurf massacre game looks fun

Actually, they go far back as 1958! And they're called by a bunch of various names in various languages -- Schtroumpfs in French, Pitufo in Spanish, Puffi in Italian, Schlumpfe in German, Dardasim in Hebrew, etc.

I never had any desire to have the smurfs game. I hated the smurfs. Still do.

You should try Castle Smurfenstein for the apple II & IIe, I got a copy about 13 years ago and just started playing it again. Its a fan made game from original Castle Wolfenstein made many many years ago. I can still hear there screams of , "Ahhh !"

I never had the VCS version until I started collecting Atari in the 90s, but I did have a CV back in the day (okay, I still have it) and had Smurf RIGC and would play it with some regularity. I think I found the music to be the most interesting part of the game. I never really was a fan of the cartoon - my brother watched it more than I did - although I do have one Smurf figure, Pirate Smurf, that has sat next to every computer I've owned since 1988 (currently he's hanging out with a miniature Master Chief from Halo).

I guess that's a matter of opinion. Look at these two pics in a row, and it's actually one of those games that makes the differences between the two systems very apparent.
