did smurfs appeal to you as a kid? (the vcs game)

Recommended Posts

I also have the CV version and it's pretty cool how close they got to it with the VCS.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. Look at these two pics in a row, and it's actually one of those games that makes the differences between the two systems very apparent.

Well, I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. But considering that the Atari can only do 2 colors per scan line, all 40 pixels of it, and the Coleco could do 4 (I think) at 160 or so pixels, the game is dam near spot on.

My only compl.aint about the Atari version, is the Jumping is a bit pickey and less forgiving than the coleco version. Of course, all of five minutes and you'll be playing like a pro anyways.

I imagein the lack of a fence on the first screen on the 2600, is probably due to the house being a sprite. Don't know, but I'm pretty sure that's the only way to get as many colors as they did.

Put me in with the guys impressed by the CV's graphics but I never played the VCS one until emulation.

The CV game was OK, nothing special. The Smurfs cartoon was painfully awful and unfunny.

i liked the cartoon a lot......it was targetted at kids so the humor level wasn't going to be gut-bustin'

I badly wanted the CV version, but playing the VCS version with a friend killed me on both, I seriously couldnt even jump over the first little fence!

like i said before....i never understood the jumping issue.....i got the hang of it in a few tries when i was a kid..but i guess some people can get it and some people cant.........i always did like the "smurf farting noise" as i called it, whenever you hit the fence or spider

I never saw the game as a kid, but I disliked The Smurfs in general, so even though it's a technically impressive game, I can say with some confidence that the game would not have appealed to me back then.

Everybody finds different things funny but I don't think simply being aimed a kids is a reason to not be funny. There's plenty of cartoons aimed at kids that are funny. Bugs Bunny, Sponge Bob, Woody Woodpecker and a ton of others. I think Smurfs bugged me as a kid because it seemed so goody-goody to me. Like a cartoon they'd show at Sunday school or something. I watched it once in a while but I always hoped Gargamel would catch them and eat them all. Maybe toss a few to the cat too.

i always hoped Wily E. Coyote would finally catch the Road Runner and eat him...... ;)

i just liked the Smurfs (maybe it was because of the goody two shoes shit)

same way with Care Bears, i loved them back when i was a kid.....and now i collect old care bears stuff as well as some new care bear stuff thats released

Ok... the Vcs version look like crap... (Dont blame coleco again) The VCS had it's own limit so... dont blame coleco atari fans bastard :D the coleco was a better system that's the deal... and YES this games was such fun playing it at 5 years old.. that's it... if you play this game and your're too old don't blame nothing about it... it WAS fun at this time... ;)

Not that I was alive when the game came out, but Smurf is pretty much the last game for Atari I haven't got yet that I actually want to play. I need to find me a copy somewhere fast.

I saw one in the local used game store here. It's the first one I've seen in the wild. Do you perhaps live in Newfoundland?

Sadly, no. Good ol' hick Saskatchewan.

I'll get a copy sooner or later. I'm just trying not to spend $12 in the process. Ebay people get retarded sometimes.
