Chicago, where can you find atari

Recommended Posts

Welcome to heaven, my friend.

You have to go pretty darn obscure to find a system they don't sell stuff for. For example, have you ever seen a store that sells Action Max games before? Well, now you will. :D

In case the link doesn't work for you, the address is:

VIDEOGAMES ETC
4351 N Harlem Ave
Harwood Heights, IL 60706

Also -- Land of the Lost on Belmont, off Broadway. You walk in, and inside the glass counter in the front of the store you will find TONS of Atari 2600 carts and a few boxed games -- some never opened.

Wish I lived in Chicago. :(

AT our only non-chain-all-purpose video game store, the cheapest thing they have are the 2600 Pac-Man carts...those start at about $5. And everything just goes up from there.

I think i need to take a road trip.

If you ever come down to Kankakee, we have an excellent used gaming store here with a sizeable 2600 game cart stock.

In Northern Illinois... Now and then, some really good finds here. Like Salvation Army or Thrift Shop. I got some real rare games once! The next day the commons were all gone! I was lucky. Problem is, I don't search much. Back in 1990-94, tons of (common) Atari games were getting sold at garage sales near my town for like a quarter, BUT I wasn't interested in sales back then, I used other methods, stores and stuff. I don't know why I didn't try some garage sales when I was 12. I wasn't sure if I liked Atari enough to keep my collection active.

(THIS IS ANOTHER LOOONG STORY)

But I would get very interested if I seen or heard of Atari. Go figure.

Earlier this week I went to two Salvation Army stores...one in Andersonville, and the other in Bucktown. Atari carts: none. However, the one in Bucktown had a ton of Sega Genesis games (boxed)...

Agreed....fairly sizeable selection, reasonable prices...had a lot of Intellevision carts, too, and a few 7800 games -- and, of course, the obligatory random ColecoVision cart mixed in with the 2600 carts...too bad I was limiting myself because I thought I was going to have a really financially tight week....then again, with my debt, I SHOULD maintain a tight budget. :)

Five bucks for Pac-Man?! A store in my town has 2 for a buck each.

I just went there last night for the first time. (Man...the aroma from the nearby cookie factory is amazing!) Wow....tons of stuff for CHEAP! I walked out with quite a handful of carts for Intellivision and A7800...came VERY close to getting an Atari trackball too, but I gotta watch the finances....

Well, i think everyone already has more Pac-Man carts than they know what to do with (I'll probably build a bomb shelter out of them one day), but yeah...the only places i've found within a reasonable radius of here are incredibly shady with their game sales. Everything is "rare" and everything is expensive! I just went to a used game/movie/cd store recently that started carrying NES games... SMB/Duck Hunt was $12!! I'm sure when they get some Atari games in you will have to trade your firstborn son for anything above an R2.

The temptation to move to a major metropolitan area is strong, but i can't even bring myself to use Dayton's bus system, much less that of a larger city... I am totally serious about a game-buying road trip though...i need to map out a good list of reputable stores coast to coast. :)

I am in the suburbs and I hate to give up a secret resource but...the sellers on eBay sometimes have good values. Plus you can sometimes find decent games at the Alsip Swap-O-Rama.

Okay...

I'm too lazy to search, but was there not a member on AA forums a few years back who had the Atari Corp. signs from Atari Chicago in the late 80s?
