super_dos_man #1 Posted October 9, 2006 You know how some of us reject systems like the xbox 360 and ps2? Well, I was thinking was there people who hated the nes for "taking over" as they still played their odysseys? did they hate those "awesome graphics" and "crap gameplay" (which I actually like the nes but sayin thats wut some other people might have felt about the system) well.......... were there any people like that? P.S. I didn't know where to post this so please move where you think is necessary.
SteveW #2 Posted October 9, 2006 I was a little like that. I was always an Atari type of guy, but I did get an NES right after it came out. Once Nintendo started doing all of their evil business practices like trying to block companies like Atari and Sega from getting shelf space in stores or price gouging US customers on Super Mario Bros. 3 I stopped giving Nintendo my money. Jess Ragan #3 Posted October 9, 2006 Yeah, I knew a few guys who were dead set against the Nintendo revolution (and I'm not walking about the Wii here!). They longed for the good old days, back when games were the way they remembered them, and were fiercely loyal to Atari, even after it was sold to the Tramiels. At the time, I thought that attitude was rather silly. I enjoyed both the Atari and Nintendo eras of gaming, and didn't see why they couldn't co-exist. Then the SONY generation came along, and it all came into focus! JR
Tompkins #4 Posted October 9, 2006 I don't see why everyone here hates nintendo. This may be a classic atari forum, but that doesn't mean everyone has to be overly dedicated to only one system, or company. It's good to have a variety.
Jess Ragan #5 Posted October 9, 2006 Dude, you have GOT to tone down that avatar! He looks like the offspring of Ricky Shroeder and The Incredible Hulk. JR
Pixelboy #6 Posted October 9, 2006 Frankly, when Atari, ColecoVision and Intellivision games stopped being sold in stores after the big Crash of '84, I was just glad to see the NES arrive when it did. With its superior graphics and sounds, and nice controllers (for the time), for me it was the dawn of a new era of gaming. I would never spit on any pre-NES console, but I never bitched about the NES either.
2600Lives #7 Posted October 9, 2006 Well, I see myself as a gamer. Not a classic gamer. Not a modern gamer. A GAMER. I like 'em all, new and old. I can sit for hours playing the most inane NES game, then fire up Guitar Hero and waste the rest of the night. I'll play a 2600 game till my fingers bleed, then load up Prey or Doom 3. I just like gaming in general, and to be honest, those who stick to either one system or one generation are missing out on a LOT of fun stuff.
Atarifever #8 Posted October 9, 2006 (edited) I didn't hate the NES until i got a SMS, that's when I started to feel jipped. I was like "so better than 2600 graphics don't require blinking screens? (I guess I had been a gullable kid) Oh really. Well I guess Nintendo can kiss my ass then. Many years later I would buy a Gamecube and forgive them. I find myself playing my Atari, then my Snes, then I fire up Resident evil 4, for some good old fashion Zombie killing, then switch back to Missle command on my atari. I'm a video game fanatic, really. I'll play any game if it's good, no matter what system it is.
Video #10 Posted October 9, 2006 I was one of the Nintendo hataz back in the day. In fact, while I played my friends Nintendo, I didn't actually upgrade beyond the Atari 2688, untill the SNES came out (that was when I finely figured that there were games the 2600 actually COULDN"T do. As a kid, I gave a shat less about graphics, if the game plays good, it plays good even if it looks like a brick, and if it plays like crap, it'll still play like crap no matter how much makeup you slap on And I'm still this way today, with modern games. I did get a Nintendo, about 95 when the toplaoder came out, and I loved Mario on it, but I never owned the 8 bit during it's actual life. Guess I was peved that it killed Atari (as I thought then) But hey, as new games came out for my Atari till 91 or so, I was still happy and getting new games for it anyways:P
NE146 #11 Posted October 9, 2006 Hell no. I've eagerly embraced every single video game system as it came out. You better believe I was hog wild for Nintendo when I first saw a Famicom in Japan back in 84 or so (I thought it was the mysterious japanese home videogame system that had arcade graphics.. "if only i could bring it home") Videogames are about the new... Cutting edge technology and whatnot. That's my viewpoint as a member of the 1977 Star Wars generation. I don't know about you guys but when the 2600 was big on my mind, it was new and current. Same for the 5200. The march just goes on

kevin242 #13 Posted October 10, 2006 There weren't many (if any) anti-NES'ers, when that system became popular Atari was yesterdays news.

Yeah...NOW But between 92 and 97, there were no games for it (wasn't Edtris 97? don't remember) and there wasn't a wide selection till after 2000, when they started comeing out a lot more.
