80s Chiptunes

Recommended Posts

I have some MODs of '80s tunes, if you're looking for a quick start to your collection. Stuff like "Axel F", the "Fletch" theme, the "Ghostbusters" theme, "Another One Bites the Dust", some Jean-Michel Jarre covers, and so on. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

The High Voltage SID Collection, which strives to collect every bit of music ever composed for the C-64's SID chip, undoubtedly also has quite a few '80s tunes in its collection. You just have to dig for them.

Speaking of "Axel F", I just downloaded a cool remix of it (tbo_axel.xm) plus a nifty mix of the music from "Zak McKracken" (zak.it) from The Mod Archive.

Reminds me... I've got some 4a disks I really need to look into "dumping" to my PC before they fail on me.

Includes a couple music demos.

@skunkworx

Are the covers in MP3 format?

My WinAMP refuses to play VG files 80% of the time,

despite my repeated reinstalls of the plugins--and the media player itself.

That and I wanna burn to CD. :D

No, they are in MOD format (4-channel ProTracker and SoundTracker, to get a wee bit technical). WinAmp has a plug-in to play MODs, which comes with the full installation package. You can then use WinAMP to export them as WAVs that can be used by your CD burning software.

MOD isn't strictly for video game music, and has been around since the early '90s (it started on the Commodore Amiga). I've never had any trouble getting WinAmp to play MODs.

How would I export to WAV?

Look at Winamp's output options. One of them should be DiskWriter, or something along those lines (I know the full version has it, not sure about the "lite" version). When you select that as your output choice, each file you play gets dumped to a WAV. You can configure which directory Winamp uses to save the WAV files.

I forgot to say several hours ago that I found a solution here: http://www.audiotoolsdirect.com/winamp5.shtml

Thanks though. :)
