Mortal Kombat Armageddon

Recommended Posts

This thread is about the X-Box or PS2 version. I figure both will just be the PS2 version.

Anyone pick it up yet? How is the create a fighter mode compared to Soul Calibur 3's similar mode?

Is the kart racer the only mini-game? I was really hoping for a return of Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat.

From what I read it's ALOT more customizable then the SC3 create a character, you can change every aspect of the character including the bust size of the female characters lol

But all the special edition has extra to it is Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, right?

I think thats the only supplement. But honestly, why UMK3 on PS2 when MK Trilogy is better. A lot of people hated MK3, but in Ultimate form its second best next to trilogy. So no great 2D action on the X-box, oh well, 2D fighter kinda suck with its controller, PS2 controller is the PERFECT fighting game controller

Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PS One doesn't work on the PS2 for some reason (I know it was one of the first announced incompatible PS One games right around the release of the PS2) which is a shame, since it features a lot of cool stuff not found in UMK3.

It does work on the PS2. I play it all the time. The only problem is that the game locks up if you let the continue timer run down to zero.

You must have a later PS2 model. The first few runs before they worked out alot of PS1 emulation incompatibilities couldn't run several PS1 games including MK Trilogy.

Well, as I've mentioned before, my PS2 is from December of 2001. I've also played the game on a unit bought in March of 2001.

SPCH3001 R and my friend has a SPCH3001. From this site it seems I have a V4R and my friend has a V1 or V2.

I even tested it again today (on mine). It plays perfectly fine until you let the continue counter reach zero in a 1P game.

Something to note about most of the PS2 incompatibility lists, is that many of them seem to have been compiled by people who were motivated merely to make long lists, not accurate or informative ones. MKT is among a number of games which actually work fine with a minor glitch, but the list makers want to characterize them as unplayable.

In case it isn't in the strategy guide (the Mortal Kombat Deception strategy guide was mostly empty with a direction to go to the website and pay $15 more for the real information), I've found out some info on how to do fatalities in this game.

From an interview with the creator, a fatality can supposedly be 10 steps long. I haven't been able to keep one going through that many steps, but I have managed 5.

You start a fatality by being close and tapping either forward, forward, button or down, down, face button. Theoretically, you could also use away, away, or up, up, but I haven't gotten those combinations to work to start a fatality. After starting the fatality, you have a certain amount of time to input a next step.

(Note: forward, back, button seems to work as well.)

After the first step, just about any combination of direction, direction, button will cause another step of the fatality to occur. Apparrently, you can only perform any specific step twice in the chain. (If you use up, up, HK, then you can only use up, up, HK twice total in the fatality.)

Using the LK button seems to be a finisher to the fatality string. So, direction, direction, LK should generally be the final element of your fatality.

What precisely your character does will depend on how deep into the fatality string you are. Here are some finishers to satisfy your bloodlust.

forward, forward, LK = Head Pop

down, down, LK = spine rip

forward, back, LK = torso rip

back, back, LK (second and later only?) = neck break

I just bought MKA and I'm absolutely loving it. They fixed Kitana from the previous game so that when she throws her fans she doesn't lose them, they removed the annoying colored coins to unlock things and just have 1 type of coin now, the Krypt is all labeled expect the one space that no-one has figured out yet labelled ?? and the Kombat is insanely fun and easy to pick up and play. Also of characters have new moves added in to make them more competitive too.

It's definately worth picking up IMHO - Chameleon is implemented very well, Rain is very cool both in design and moves, and even though he is down to two legs, Motaro is really good in the game. I'd say the only nitpicks I have so far would be the shrinking of Moloch to be way too small to be categorized as a boss character and maybe that the individual fatalities are gone - but I'm still not sure if that's a problem. It's nice to not spend the first few days trying to see all the fatalies and instead just enjoying the gameplay.

The aerial kombat is really fun too - I'm normally not someone that takes the time to learn in depth combos, but they come really intuitively and easily in the game. There are some really nice special effects and the level designs and hazards are just great.

I've heard complaints that they pulled too many resources, like models or fighting styles, from the previous games, but in the end it's a non-issue to me. Motor Kombat is fun - I haven't tried the new Konquest mode yet.

So far, I'm coming to the opinion that Deception was the best 3D entry. Deception had much stronger sub-games in Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat. Plus, Armageddon just feels kind of clunky. It's not something I can easily explain, just a general feel which permeates everything.

Still, Armageddon is pretty cool. It's like the 3D version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
