gulag picture radio #1 Posted October 16, 2006 Hi there! I've had a Japanese Super Famicom here for years, and I never knew if it works or not. Whomever had it before me modded the slot so that it could take the larger American carts, perhaps they also performed whatever internal mods necessary to make US games work with this unit... who knows? Anyway, I'd like to try it out but I don't have the right power supply. I imagine that it uses the same AC as an American SNES - though the other problem there is that the power jacks on each are different sizes. So the question is, are the power requirements the same? and also will the Super Famicom display correctly on my TV (it should since we're both NTSC, I figure...) I've got a couple of Super Famicom games here that I've never tried, so it would be awesome to get this working. Thanks for any help!
JB #2 Posted October 16, 2006 Hi there! I've had a Japanese Super Famicom here for years, and I never knew if it works or not. Whomever had it before me modded the slot so that it could take the larger American carts, perhaps they also performed whatever internal mods necessary to make US games work with this unit... who knows? No internal mods necessary. The diffrence betwen US and J on the SNES was solely a matter of system and cart case. Anyway, I'd like to try it out but I don't have the right power supply. I imagine that it uses the same AC as an American SNES - though the other problem there is that the power jacks on each are different sizes. So the question is, are the power requirements the same? and also will the Super Famicom display correctly on my TV (it should since we're both NTSC, I figure...) Yes, power requirements are the same. Maybe it'll work on your TV. AV cables, yes. RF modulator, no(while Japan uses the same image formatting, they use diffrent frequencies). I've got a couple of Super Famicom games here that I've never tried, so it would be awesome to get this working. Thanks for any help! An alternative to setting up the J unit is knocking the 2 tabs out of the back of your US SNES cart slot. Those 2 tabs are all that prevent J games from working in a US deck. Though the J deck looked far better, so it's preferred.
