Is this car THAT valuable or is this being shilled?

Recommended Posts

There is a huge classic car push that is turning in some insane prices on cars that were not worth that much just a few years ago. You should see some of the car auctions that espn has on tv. Those go for millions some times.

In fact here is a link to a really insane car auction price

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-B...037942343QQrdZ1

What ! ?

WTF ! ?

100 million ?

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

It can't possibly be true. You can buy a major league baseball team for less than that.

EDIT: It was removed while I was posting this. The last bid I saw was $99,999,999.00.

Obviousley a prank or something.

That seems to be fairly common on eBay, unfortunately. I wonder what the highest bid is you can enter on eBay? :)

I wondered the same thing. I think it actually is $99,999,999 because before it go pulled, 3 or 4 different people had that exact bid.

It can go above $100,000,000, as this auction yesterday was above that:

Stephen Colbert: Exclusive Portrait

They got smart and restarted it for pre-approved bidders only.

:rolling:

That's fantastic.

(However, the highest bid I can see in the cancelled section is still $99,999,999.00.)

Looks like there were several bids for $99,999,999.00. Perhaps the later ones pushed it over $100 million? I just went over to the Digg.com article where I initially saw the link to the auction, and someone else commented on the $100+ million bid:

http://digg.com/celebrity/Colbert_Posts_eB...eplace_Portrait

"Current bid: US $100,000,100.00"

Does look like $99,999,999.00 is the highest you can enter.

IIRC, the same guys that did the Baldwin Motion Camaro's did this conversion ( at Least the Motion part of the team). This is a dealership modified car much like the Yenkos were or the DKM Trans Am's. For a one off car, 300 g's isn't bad.

Couldn't you just make your own copy of the stephen Colbert portrait and sell it for 1 million?

BTW, this thread reminds me of all the insane things on ebay, like the pope pancake, or whatever it was.

Take a look at the Kruze International or the Barret Jackson auctions..and you will see INSANE prices paid for cars..

But all in all.. they are worth what the high bidder will pay..

I am sure there are quite a few people that feel the prices paid for some Atari games are just as insane.. on a smaller scale.. but none the less..

Another one where the price is 40 times what it is actually worth

Some idiot a few months ago on Ebay claimed that his normal Pole Position 2600 cart was "Super rare" and asked for $400 for it. Retard.

There is a difference between something rare and something thought to be rare. This car is very rare, I challenge anyone to find another example of a Baldwin Motion GSX. A GSX is rare enough on it's own, one modified by a legendary shop is unbelivably rare. Right now there are 168 total registered 1970 Buick GSX's, as far as I know this is the only known and documented Baldwin Motion GSX in existance.

Cars have gone up in value a lot here in OZ too. its not uncommon for Aussie muscle cars of the '60s and '70s to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. In the mid '70s there was a 'supercar scare' and all the manufacturers were forced to cancel production of their top of the line sports sedans. Ford had made a few prototypes that were sold off internally to friends of Ford management. There are only 3 of those prototypes known to exist and they would fetch CRAZY amounts if they were to be sold today.
