+Mockduck #1 Posted October 19, 2006 Hi all - I'm a bit of a fan of the music group The Residents, strange folk known for wearing eyeballs on their heads. According to their web site www.residents.com, they actually worked on an atari 2600 cart.... http://www.residents.com/C1016472556/E2006...2246/index.html Interesting, no? Mark of the Mole was an early 80's record of theirs that was part of a trilogy (i think?) of records about Moles declaring their freedom against the Chubs, and other various weirdness. Some of the songs were sung in "mole-speak", kind of like gibberish. Very strange stuff if you are into that sort of thing. They actually did put out a few "video games" of sorts in the 1990's - a CD rom called Freak Show and another called Bad Day on the Midway. Would love to see the game in action. Tempest #3 Posted October 19, 2006 So it does exist... I've spoken with the programmer of Mark of the Mole several times, and he told me he made two copies of the game before Atari killed it off (well actually this was a side project and he left Atari before he finished it). The programmer had one, and he sent one to one of the Residents band members. The one sent to the band member was an early version of the game, while the one the programmer had was about 70-75% complete. The programmer thought his version was lost, but has recentally found it and is waiting to test it before deciding what to do with it. I assume this is the one sent to the band member, but it could be the programmers copy (I'm not sure who wrote that blog). Very interesting... +Mockduck #4 Posted October 19, 2006 Tempest - I'm guessing the copy shown was the copy sent to the Resident. The person who maintains the blog is - i think - a megafan of the band who sort of acts as their webmaster, and used to put together podcasts for the band. Sparky is the name he goes by, i think. They've been putting up a number of "curiousities" over the past few weeks on their site. Maybe someone needs to send a polite, friendly letter to them suggesting a ROM dump? I bet they have no idea how many people would be interested in playing this (to the extent possible). From their web site, the email contact is: BigBrother at residents.com
Tempest #5 Posted October 19, 2006 Well I'll shoot him an e-mail and see what's up. I just hope he doesn't get deluged with e-mail about this... Tempest
kirin jensen #6 Posted October 20, 2006 I'm not surprised that the masters of multimedia would have an Atari game. Boy I hope this ROM gets shared with Atari fans.
