One for the PSX fans

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I found a new forum dedicated to the Playstation. The main site is www.playstationmuseum.com, and there is a link to the forums right off the main page (after entering by clicking on the really wacked graphic). The forum is really new, and there are only like 9 members, and only three of us are actually posting. One is the curator of the museum, so that one' a given.

If there are any PSX fans in the AA crowd, then I encourage you guys to check it out... it could bve a really fun forum...and the main site alone is worth visiting.

Do you use ePSXe for emulation? I heard that's a good one.

Do check the site out, you'll probably have fun.

I go by shoggoth80 on there if any of y'all sign up.

Same one I use..... the pSX is really really nice.

I wish I knew where I put my controller for the computer..... I may just need to get an adaptor to use a PS2 controller.

The best PS emu that I know of is pSX.

Yep, this is the emulator I use, Version 1.8. I started with v. 1.3. I use it because I was never able to configure the plug-ins on ePSXe. :?

I just got sick of the plugin mess.

I snapped up pSX, the bios (SCPH1001), the diagnostic/debug, and the readme. I was never able to get the ePSXe to work either, even after grabbing a ton of plug ins. So, now I have two to mess with for the sake of comparison. Perhaps the downloaded version of ePSXe I picked up last came half configured (he, it was through bittorrent, and my NeoRageX came set up). Here's to hoping on that one!

Yah... I wouldn't go grabbing emulators off bittorrent. 'S a good way to get viruses.

*scratches head*

Doesn't the setup for NeoRage consist of dropping the BIOS images in a directoy?

Just put the bios file in the ROM directory. Don't unzip the roms or bios. That should do it.

It seemed to operate fine with the bios ROMs where they were. The ROM directory was already set up and in place too. So, it seems like I more or less got NeoRageX pre-configured...which is snazz...but this is one that definitely will need a gamepad. Something like atari or NES emulation... not so important...more complex things... hard to get along without one.

I have 4 emulation programs I am very keen on VBA, which is a great GBAemulator, NeoRageX which just awesome, MagicEngine which is about the best TG16/PCEngine emulator (but the designer wants 16 bucks or so to send you a code to unlock it to full mode, which isn't too bad, and it is the best out there right now), and good old MAME32 something like V.107 or something like that. Good times. I try to use hardware as much as possible, but sometimes, emulators are great for portability.

Sounds interesting. I have been playing a lot of PSX lately, as I love the play style of some of the games. And now it's been out a while, the games are falling into their slots of playable, and enjoyable.

NFS and Spyro Series are my favorites.

Yeah I really enjoy the PSX games. For a while around my area you could pick them up really cheap. For some reason now they are becoming quite expensive and not at all common. I suspect many PS2 users are seeking them out after becoming dismayed with the current PS2 releases. The prices on some Playstation RPG's puts them out of the reach of many gamers! The last really good PSX title I picked up was another Einhander, a few weeks ago......really nice shmup!

I've never tried MagicEngine because I'm too cheap. But I've found one that works better for me than any other free emulator. It's called Ootake. It must be out of Japan, and it works really well with the Hucard roms. I've not tried it with CD games though. I don't have any and I'm not too interested in downloading and burning them, maybe down the road. I found it at emuasylum.com.

Just signed up there, thx for the heads-up!

Madhatter, what kind of "trouble" did you get into over there? I noticed you mentioned it in your apology...

Oh, that was in regards to stuff like unreleased/prototype ISOs and whatnot. It wasn't really trouble, but the forums rules were update thanks to the situation. Harmless in my eyes, but not in everyone else's. I edited my posts to remove the "questionable" content, and just did a public apology to show that I really meant no harm by it.

I am into playing games, as much as I am into preserving them. Therefore, I see no harm in accumulating prot/beta/NR ISO files, and burning them to disc. I have the means to play such things... as I have boot/swap discs, and I am also seriously contemplating getting a full on mod machine. I have a debugging unit, which is in my opinion better than a mod, since it is 100% first party ware...but also higher up on the rarity scale...so I have a tendency to baby it, and play such apps on compatible machines (like my famiclone vs. Twin Famicom).

It's a fun forum, but still small. The curator is hoping to get sponsored by Sony... it would be cool, but I don't expect it to happen (despite my misgivings about Sony business practices, I still love the PSX/PS2, and they are probably my favorite playing console out of all of them). there is a lot of potential.

I would say that if anyone wanted to learn anything about the titles that are not released, one could always email, and I would be happy to fill in the details from my experiences.
