Pengwin #1 Posted October 25, 2006 After my last 800XL recently bit the dust (it could just have been loose components, but I'm not too technically minded to the insides of computers), I have managed to aquire a new one from eBay for only £15. Even better...it's in better condition than my old one and I think it's a later model (my old one had the buggy basic). Spent all last night playing Archon and Ultima III
Rybags #2 Posted October 25, 2006 Ripped from another site - to find which revision you have: PRINT PEEK(43234) If you get 162 you have Rev A If you get 96 you have Rev B If you get 234 you have Rev C There were also bugs besides the old move code bomb - rev B padded programs with 16 bytes of unneeded data every time you SAVEd. Pretty sure Rev A had a bug where an INPUT statement without arguments would lock up the machine.
Pengwin #3 Posted October 25, 2006 Just tested, I now have Rev C. My old one was Rev A
Rybags #4 Posted October 25, 2006 I don't think any XLs after the 1200 had Rev A.
drac030 #5 Posted October 25, 2006 Pretty sure Rev A had a bug where an INPUT statement without arguments would lock up the machine. Rev. C has similar bug in the DIM statement. This is a bug in the syntax control table, not the interpreter code itself.
deathtrappomegranate #6 Posted October 25, 2006 I don't think any XLs after the 1200 had Rev A. And the 1200XL didn't have built-in BASIC at all.
Ross PK #7 Posted October 25, 2006 What're you going to do with the old one, get it fixed or keep it for spares?
Pengwin #8 Posted October 25, 2006 What're you going to do with the old one, get it fixed or keep it for spares? I was thinking of eBay, I'm sure it can be repaired, just that I'm not that knowledgeable about the inner workings.
