Did Atari ever consider porting originals to other systems?

Recommended Posts

Yar's Revenge or Adventure maybe?

Or would this be a disaster as they were considered one of the 2600's selling points

I mean, if you have Adventure for the Intellivision or Yar's for Coleco, why buy a 2600?

Hmmm....I didn't know that.

I was talking more about "back in the day" before the crash

But since you mentioned it, was the GBC version that bad? What did they change / add?

It wasn't bad per se. The problem was that you couldn't see anything.

You see, the programmers decided that the best way to do Yars' Revenge would be to use highly detailed graphics rather than tiny graphics that would be hard to see on the Gameboy's small screen. It was a noble idea, but in the end it meant that you could see what the *bleep* you were doing. Take this screenshot for example:

Can you see what he's shooting at? Do you think he could see the spinner coming? Nope. The player has to guess what he's hit on the other side, and try to listen for the spinner. Because he can't see it until he scrolls the screen reeeeeaally close like this:

That close, you're a sitting duck for the missile and the spinner. Not good, not good at all. :(

Miner2049er plays kind of like that on the Game Boy. The levels scroll four ways as you move around them. It can cause problems on the levels with multiple transporters, as you can't see which one is flashing.

Atari made 3 games for the Intellivisio system under the name Atarisoft. They were Defender, Centipede and Pac-Man

Yeah but those were arcade ports, not 2600 originals

I meant something was unique to the 2600 and not already an arcade game

Yeah, exactly...I can't imagine why they'd want to do that...it was bad enough that you could already play 2600 games on ColecoVision using Expansion Module #1.

I liked it. As I recall, there were markers on the sides of the screen to let you know where the zorlon cannon and the spinner were at. Further, as you got farther into the game, things changed up to make it more difficult. no neutral zone, no barrier around the qorlon so that you had to charge the zorlon cannon through other means, more types of enemies...it got interesting, and more fun(And difficult!)
