jpfalcon2003 #1 Posted November 9, 2006 I almost bought the decathalon game, but went with track & field instead. I'm sure glad I did too. For an Activision title, Decathalon could have been better. track & field's graphics blows this one out the water. I did hear that you could use the T&F controller for decathalon though. Didn't know that until recently.
bretthorror #2 Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) Is the T&F controller just something with three big ass buttons on it, essentially? It is supposed to work with any game, you just can only go from side to side with it. I assume Decathlon is similar (I've only played Decathlon, not T&F, although I do have T&F II for NES. jpfalcon2003 #3 Posted November 9, 2006 Never tried the controller with any other game, so don't know. What controller do you use to play T&F II for the NES?
bretthorror #4 Posted November 9, 2006 The standard NES controller. Or if I'm playing against someone else who doesn't know much about the NES, a controller with turbo.
jpfalcon2003 #5 Posted November 9, 2006 Glad to hear that. I passed up on that game previously because i thought it required a special controller for that game.
jpfalcon2003 #6 Posted November 9, 2006 I do have California Games II for the SNES and like that one. I'll have to check out the T&F 2 game again. I may get this one. I think I was getting this one confused with World Class Track Meet. That one uses something else besides the controller.
Foxsolo2000 #7 Posted November 9, 2006 To the original question I prefer Track and Field to Decathlon. Dont ask me why for I guess its just personal preference on my part
Lord Helmet #8 Posted November 9, 2006 I like them both, but T&F is better, jsut based on the fact that there is more to the sound. Decathlon always seems too quiet to me.
Big Player #9 Posted November 11, 2006 I like Track and Field better because you can race head-to-head with another player. With Decathalon you have to take turns. The T&F controller is the only way to play both games. Otherwise you will go through a lot of joysticks.
tremoloman2006 #10 Posted November 20, 2006 'Track & Field' wins hands down for me. 'Decathalon' was a fun game, but the long running events kill the fun for me.
Student Driver #11 Posted November 25, 2006 T&F here, with a greater variety in events than Decathlon. Then again, Decathlon can't be faulted for lack of variety as it does what it sets out to do-- a decathlon. When I was younger, I preferred Decathlon simply for the fact that one could cheat at the pole vault event, allowing me to easily see the usual Activision score glitching. Zoyx #12 Posted November 28, 2006 I guess I preferred track and field, because I was a fan of the arcade game, and it came with the arcade-like controller. The cheat I developed for these games was to go into a Wico joystick... run a wire from the up-switch to the right-switch, and another wire from the down to the left swicth. Then when playing the game, I would move the joystick from NE to SW...each move would count as two hits in the game. Got some good scores that way. The other cheat is with the T&E controller and use a pencil (think fulcrum). This cheat also worked on the arcade machine. For some reason they wouldn't let me use my pencil during competitions. shadow460 #13 Posted November 28, 2006 The Amiga Power Stick works wonders with Decathlon. It's very tight, and will stand up to the punishment better than a CX-40 will. My vote goes to Decathlon, since I've never in my life played Track and Field.
