P.I.X.L. #1 Posted November 13, 2006 Hello I was looking back on this forum and everyone here seems to be very informative on the subject of MAME cabinets. I have been in the arcade industry for over 23 years and have never worked on a MAME cab. I have a small business repairing actual arcade cabs but I just got in a customers MAME cab. it has no sound. I have replaced the computer twice with the same hard drive, I have also installed a known working sound system in the unit and still nothing! I have also gone into ADVANCEMAME's menu for sound. you can see the sound in the graphic equalizer, but still no sound. I believe that the sound is muted in windows, but I don't know how to get back to fix the problem. PLEASE HELP! Thank you Ray A Bright Idea Amusements! www.abrightideaamusements.com
Curt Vendel #2 Posted November 13, 2006 Ray - What OS is running? If DOS - make sure you see that the Soundblaster16 or equivalent drivers are loaded in the config.sys and autoexec.bat files in the c:\ directory If the system is running Win9x or WinXP, then go into the control panel and select the sound system, make sure that MUTE isn't checked and then do some simple tests of the sample files to see if you can get any sound out. I'm going to ask the obvious only because I have to - you have verified the speakers are power on and are working through another sound sound (an ipod or another computer system perhaps?) Just gotta ask, not meaning to insult you or anything. If it is a DOS system, you could step through line by line as DOS loads and check to make sure you're not seeing any errors (it is possible that the sound board settings may have defaulted to stock or have been altered and if so, you need to make sure that the IRQ and PORT (MEM) settings for the sound board in the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat match the jumper (or nvram) settings on the motherboard for the sound system.
