Bronze 7800 cart connector = 100% 2600 compatibility?

Recommended Posts

I just received a 7800 from e-Pay without an expansion port, but it plays Robot Tank flawlessly along with the other titles mentioned here in the 7800 FAQ. Aside from opening up the 7800 and looking for the timing chip, is the bronze vs. the silver cart connector a reliable determining factor for 2600 compatibility? Does anyone have 7800s with silver cart connectors that work with both Robot Tank and the Supercharger?

Robot tank dosen't work on mine. Sucks because I really like that game. I have to play it on my brother's system. I just let him keep it with his carts.

I've got at least two here that do.

:ponder: It seems like a complete crap shoot when it comes to getting a 100% 2600 compatible unit.

 Hah! I opened up the 7800 and it definitely has the expansion port, but no opening for it on the console shell. Weird...? :?

 No, actually I'm betting Atari placed original units into console shells assembled in Taiwan.

Still, one cannot tell what kind of unit one will be getting unless one opens it first. Fat chance! :P
