madhatter667 #1 Posted November 14, 2006 Hey guys, I was wondering what an average price for a clean, dependable Jaguar would be? I do not own a jag yet... and it would be nice to add that to my collection (along with a Lynx... one of these days). Just itching to add something NEW to my colection in terms of hardware, and wanting to see what the online community thinks is a fair price for such an item. Any odd things I need to look out for when shopping for a Jag? Was there a CD add on for the Jag, or was it a completely new system? Most of the questions also apply for an Atari Lynx as well. I just don't want to do two posts, asking almost the same questions, in two separate forums.
Broonale #2 Posted November 14, 2006 (edited) Kermit was right. It ain't easy being green! Yes there is a CD add-on. Expect to pay $100-$150 for a working one. I highly recomend it! The consoles routinely go for $25 to $120 depending on what is bundled with them, new, used etc... Have fun! madhatter667 #3 Posted November 14, 2006 Ha ha ha... guess I get to save for a little bit (or just wait until after the holidays, and after I get a DS). Still not too bad. Another system I would love to get my hands on is a Neo-Geo unit. It isn't that I am new to games, far from it... but I never had the chance to get a Jaguar, or a Neo Geo (although I play this on emulation), or even a Lynx (even though I really wanted one when I was younger). Just trying to fill in the gaps in the console collection.
kevincal #4 Posted November 14, 2006 My best advice would be to go to eBay and seach the completed listings for "Atari Jaguar" and then go advanced search and click the "systems" tab. That will give you a great idea of what they are going for.

Songbird #6 Posted November 14, 2006 If you're interested in brand new hardware and games - including some games released after Atari went belly up in the mid-90's - check out my site http://songbird-productions.com . Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
madhatter667 #7 Posted November 14, 2006 I take it Songbird is a homebrew publisher? That's freakin' sweet. It isn't that I think that a Jag is too pricey by any means, it's just that: the holidays are coming up, and eating what disposable I DO have, and I want to get a Nintendo DS handheld as well (I work weekend security, so it is good to stay entertained). I know the Neo-Geo systems (AES, MVS, or CD) have a hell of a cult following, and ALWAYS go for a premium (and half the time the systems are Japanese... so hooray for step down converters). Just have a few things going on for the immediate future... perhaps a few months down the road I can splurge for a Jag with some cool shit bundled...occasionally I have seen some on eBay that are either new in the box, or really clean w/ the box. Not a bad thing to acquire by any means.
ls650 #8 Posted November 14, 2006 If you look at eBay, you can generally get a base system with power supply, RF switch box, 1 or 2 controllers, and a common cart game such as CyberMorph (the pack-in) for about $40 US plus shipping. If you spend about $20 or $30 more, you can often get the above plus a handful of common carts: Tempest 2000, Super Burnout, Val d'Isere Skiing, Hover Strike, I-War, etc. Contrary to what some critics say, the Jaguar has a fair number of good games. Although about 1/3 of the library are ports from the Genesis, Amiga, or SNES, there are a fair number of original games that can't be found elsewhere, and there isn't a good emulator for the Jaguar.
