Gametrailers.com had a show today on MTV which had the best and worst video games in gaming history and the numbers 3 & 2 worst games were for the Atari 2600:

 

3) Custer's Revenge for not being PC and for the way to easy game play.

 

2) E.T. They said that the game play was dumb and the whole time you are just trying to get E.T. out of the pits.

Jeeeez, hasn't E.T. been picked on enough already? Every single stupid "worst games" list ever written has an obligatory carbon-copy "ET sux0rz" entry, usually unfairly close to the top, and it's getting really old and tiresome.

 

Anyone who mindlessly bashes E.T. (or even 2600 Pac-Man) as one of the worst games of all time needs to be sentenced to 48 consecutive hours of Apollo Raquetball or any Mythicon game; maybe then they'll get some perspective and won't be too lazy to come up with something different.

If I hear another dumbass game site or magazine whine about E.T. and the damn pits, I'm gonna get my lead-weighted bat. They're all a bunch of copycat loosers. At least Seanbaby was funny.

 

Someone should abduct this guy and make him play sssnake and firefly until his eyes bleed. Or make him play Zelda on the CDi, or if you REALLY wanna be evil, make him play an RCA Studio II.

 

Bet he revises his list then.

That was the one, they said stuff like Superman could not pick up and throw a car and that he would have limited time to fly and that the game in general was poorly made.

Exactly. On the Atari, it was a top-selling game. It was also a piece of crap. Not a one of the pieces of crap you mention sold as well. Therefore, it is more likely to be remembered as one the great pieces of crap for the atari.

This debate could go on for years. The game was not crap as you so eloquently put it, it was a huge dissapointment, there is a difference but I respect your opinion. At times like these I wonder where Random Terrain has gone

I watched it last night, too. I expected ET and Pac-Man to be on the list, but I am surprised that neither was number 1. ET did come close, though.

I have a hard time with lists like that just because they base it more on games that have a reputation for being bad more than really looking for the worst games. I was glad to see Bubsy 3d and Superman high up on the list though since they really deserve it.

 

To me, ET is a playable game, there are many games that get released in completely unplayable forms and those are the games that deserve to be listed.

ET is playable a winable I use to have a friend that had no problem collecting all the Rescie Pieces so that he could see the end the reverse of the begining sceen.

 

ET the problem for me was that I would just kepp falling in caves every time I turned around then the dude w/ the yellow coat would steal my letters the game was frustrating and hard. In it's defence though it was different something Atari at that time was not known for the mainly made pac man like maze games or shooters. ET was neither if ET was a Rip of PacMan going around a Maze eating ressie pieces running from Gov. Agents would the game of been more liked? Probably.

 

Also most games on a bad game list are going to be good or best sellers, SuperMan 64 was one of the top 20 selling games for the N64.

Think about it how else will everyone know or be in agreement that it sucks. You know ET sucks because everyone that has a 2600 has 2 or 3 copies in their collection.

 

Also ET was the only game I ever saw in a Take 1 get 1 Free box at KB toys
