Rik #1 Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) Hello,I was wondering about the quality of the Atari xe light gun.I ask because i got one for pretty cheap, for my 7800,but seller said it wasnt tested,I dont mind too much if it doesnt work,I got it so damn cheap, just thinking about what the chances are of whether or not it'll work,I thought of the 5200 joysticks which were known for Not working whenever found in the wild,I hope the gun was of better quality!I havent recieved it yet.The person im getting it from is a friend,im not even paying shipping, but id still like it to work,as these things can be pricey, or hard to get a hold of! The_Laird #2 Posted November 17, 2006 The XE gun is the 7800 gun! Its not great but does the job once you get used to it.

jsoper #8 Posted November 18, 2006 OK, now I understand. The lightgun is a special order because only one Best Buy location stocks it and the Canadian staff probably didn't know. Ask them to call the Alamogordo New Mexico store and grab one from the underground stock room. The light guns are right next to the ET cartridges (order one of those too, great game). shadow460 #10 Posted November 19, 2006 The XE gun is the 7800 gun! Its not great but does the job once you get used to it. IIRC, there's an oragne gun that's actually designated and would have been sold as the 7800 gun. It was identical in every way except for the color. Well, and rarity. Only a few exist. I use a Light Phaser with my 7800.

jetset #12 Posted November 19, 2006 XE gun is liking huntting when your drunk. I must have crappy aim. I know 99.9999% of people say the XE lightgun isn't good, it's off center, etc...but I've always found it to be pretty precisce. ...And I'm usually sober when I play. Usually. shadow460 #13 Posted November 20, 2006 That's what I like about the Light Phaser. It's still a little off, but it's consistent. "Oh, my! I was shooting at the barn and I hit Gramps instead!"

I have a tendency to confuse the two,we have both here where I am at,and neither sell the classic stuff,as I checked both stores, just the U.S stores do,as I had to phone the head offices myself, cus, the DUUUUUUMBASSSSSSES at the stores dont have a clue, even after telling me "oh,someone else came in and asked if we sell classic gaming stuff",well, hasn't the thought of asking for the customer come to mind?,nooooo, thats too much work for them!lI'll just get the stuff on e-bay,where I got all my best stuff, much easier ,and less hassle, and dont have to deal with dozey clerks. NightSprinter #22 Posted November 24, 2006 Ok, I'm going to settle this dispute once and for all. After that, I'd like Albert or one of the mods to close this thread immediately so the trolling and flame-war ends. Best Electronics is a California-based wholesale place of nothing BUT Atari-stuff, and they've been in business since the 80's. the link to the site www.best-electronics-ca.com Will give you an amazing amount of information on what sort of Atari products they sell. Whether you need parts to re-build an old CX-40 joystick or if you wanna buy an AtariST computer, this is pretty much one of the best places to go to. It's NOT affiliated with Best Buy. That place is just a large nationwide appliance/electronics retail chain. The reason you can't go to Best Electronics is because they don't have an actual physical store to walk into. All of their business is done over the phone or the internet. Now as for the Atari XE LightGun, as people have stated it can be a pain to use at first. Mainly due to two things: 1.) a built-in calibration (as it's actually a trigger-activated lightpen) as per program, and 2.) it's sensitive to actual screen brightness according to how the program was made. The reason why the Best Electronics gun was suggested was due to the fact that B.E. did a little more work on the internals of the gun's hardware. Either way, you'll get used to the games after a while. And with that said, and I'm fairly sure the mods would agree on this: Question answered, flames doused, topic closed.
