Removing the hard drive--is it safe?

Recommended Posts

I'll be out visiting friends and family for thanksgiving, and a couple of the houses i'm going to also have a 360. If i want to bring my games, rather than cart the entire system up, does anyone know if it's safe to just detach and swap out the hard drives? I mean, is it basically just a big memory card, or is there some underlying risk to doing this?

I would think that it would be fine.

I mean when I sent my original 360 off because PDZ would freeze up, they wound up sending me a different console back. I had kept my original hard drive at the house when I sent it off. All I did was plug the HD into the new unit and I was good to go.

Yeah it's fine, like a PC it's just like a big flash drive.(as in portability...)

Excellent, thank you both for the information. It'll be nice not to haul around fifteen pounds of system and cords, i got so tired of doing that with the first Xbox.
