video in black&white

Recommended Posts

Hi

I got an 800Xl, but the video shows in black&white.

I´m from "pal zone". My tv is 60hz compatible, and there isn´t a problem of sintonization.

The power supply puts It´s from UK, the computer keyboard don´t have any stick that says is PAL (but I guess If you connect a 50Hz power supply to a NTSC computer can be a disaster ... )

So, 2 questions:

- Any idea where can be the problem?

- Any way to identify if the atari is pal or ntsc?

Thanks!

try this:

? PEEK(53268)

If the answer is 1 then it should be a PAL GTIA chip.

If it's NTSC instead that might explain the lack of color on your PAL display.

Hi

I tested it with a pal 600xl, and shows 1. and with the 800xl the result is 15, so I think is a NTSC.... using a power supply for PAL computers :S This maybe the cause of b&w video.

thanks for the tip anyway.

All 8-bitters use DC power for the computer, so the PSU will be fine.

If you have a more modern TV, try it - it might pick up in colour.

Or, use a composite monitor adaptor and run A/V inputs - it might work too.

Sorry, but I don´t understand very well :(

Other point, the cable to connect to TV I got with the 800xl, is male-male. I can´t use it to connect to my TV (because the in to the TV must be female).

So, I´m using a male-female cable. I don´t think this is the reason for B&w video, but I want to get sure.
