When ebaying ST's....should I include monitors or not?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just a quick question for all of you. I have recently got a hold of several ST computers (Mega STE, 2 x 1040ST, 520ST), which I will be ebaying over the coming weeks. I am curious if I should be selling the monitors with them, seperatley, or not at all? I do have monitors for each computer, some monochrome, some color, but they are all of course quite heavy so I am not sure if I might scare away potential buyers with them. Should I be selling them seperatley instead? So, essentially, I want to know if you guys were to buy an ST off of ebay, would you expect it to come with a monitor or not? Would you prefer if it did, or if it didn't?

Also, any idea which monitors people would prefer? SC1224 or SM124/125? I want to pair the best monitors with the best systems. Myself I rather prefer the monochrome monitors for the high resolution graphics (for use with midi software), however I know that a lot of people use their ST's soley for gaming, in which case perhaps I should be sticking the color monitors with the better systems.

Anyway, I would love to hear your advise. I will be putting this stuff up on ebay realtively soon, and I will be creating threads to let you guys know when this happens. I also have some other goodies like Notator with a Unitor 2, some Atari books, and a ton of disks, many of which are from a former Atari user group over here in Ottawa, Ontario.

Thanks,

- Peter

What I would do is mention there are monitors available and if the winner wants it they can have it for a nominal fee. If you include it it may detract from a potention buyer, but then again it may also help. But by offering you give the buyer the option. Monitors got from $10 to $60 in the US. I recently got a SM124 for $9 plus $35 S/H! ;)

First of all, make sure that the computers have RF modulators so that they can be hooked up to a TV, otherwise the buyer is going to HAVE to get a monitor for it from someplace, so you might as well include it. If the computer can be hooked up to a TV then you have a choice of including them or not, and selling them seperately or offering them to the buyer as stated above. But some of the ST/TT computers HAVE to have the monitor otherwise it is worthless.

Yeh the postage would put off many prospective buyers of the ST, but if you state you would throw in the monitor free if they cover the shipping for it you cover both scenarios. If you want to get rid of them this is the best way - selling CRT monitors is always tricky as the postage is far more than the price they would go for. So packing it up for transit is a lot of faff for a few bucks it brings in. I have 2 monos that I cant even give away for this reason.
