Wolfenstein Next Mission?

Recommended Posts

I am still enjoying my game and rate it is one of the most amusing VCS games ever :)

One question for everyone. I don't wish to be told HOW to find the secret level but please tell me is it somewhere that you most likely WILL run up on it if you play enough or do you have to purposely be searching for it?

WP

You must escape the Castle to find the secret level. When you think the game is over, It's not. ;)

The detailed description of how to find the secret level is floating around in several places and if you really want to know I can PM you.

I am gonna try to find it on my own but keep in mind it took me two weeks to find the hidden game in Phantom II ;) I may have to ask ya to PM me later. Thanks.

The more that I read about this game, the more I want it. Especially being a hack of Venture, one of my all time favorite games, period. Venture II still gets tons of play in my 2600.

I am a fan of Venture, Venture II and Venture III but I must say Wolfenstein is more enjoyable that all of 'em.

A good game to say the very least. Buy one, you won't regret it.

Venture III?

what is that another hack?

Packrat sells Wolfenstein VCS, is it the first version or is it the Next Mission?

Yes,

V3 is another hack and a very good one, I like it better than V2 because it puts the third level from the arcade into the game.

The Wolfenstein that Packrat sells is an earlier version of The Next Mission, I have not played it but as I understand it the Packrat version is inferior to the version sold in the AA Store. I would buy it from Al if I were you (Hell, I bought it from Al and I am me)

Improvements from the original version of Wolfenstein VCS:

* There are 4 level layouts that repeat twice to make 8 levels rather than 2 layouts repeated 4 times.

* Updated some colors to make them brighter.

* The patrolling guards have 4 starting positions now. In the original they had only two starting positions.

* Picking up the gun or ammo gives you exactly 8 bullets total. So the player can never have more than 8 bullets on hand. This ups the difficulty a pinch. 8 bullets is also the number of bullets in a German Luger pistol, and the max number shown by the ammo bar, so I think it works well.

* Fixed a bug in the original for randomizing room contents that made ammo show up either too often or not enough.

* The secret level is easier to find.

* Updated two zoomed room layouts. One has a minor change, the other has a complete overhaul.

* All enemies are animated with 2-frames.

* Changed some of the enemies to creatures so it's not just room after room of guards.

Wolfenstein VCS: The Next Mission features a brand new, full-color eight-page manual created by Dave Dries, who is also responsible for the beautiful label.

Venture 3 is a great update of the original Venture. You get more of what you already love, The entire 3rd floor with the unique enemies from the Arcade Version.

just tried V3, yes it is cool,

I remembered that in the arcade Venture, when you finished a room, it appeared on the map as being done (completeely colored), too bad none of the 2600 versions have that

but it is just a detail

I love this game.....very challenging.

I was VERY impressed with the label artwork and instruction booklet art. Awesome stuff. I was never a fan of Venture but this game is sweet.

Congratulations! By the way, the use of the difficulty switches to set the game difficulty level is not in the manual. It was a left out by accident.

Left : Right

B:B = Easiest setting.

B:A = Medium

A:B = Hard

A:A = Hardest

If you beat it on an easier setting, you may find some replay challenge at a higher difficulty.

Enjoy!

Been a few years since I started this thread but still there isn't enough good things I can say about this game.

AWESOME!!

Hard to believe this is a hack rather than a homebrew.

Good work on the part of Scott and Robert. This is still on my top ten Atari games of all time.

The programming that Robert did and the amazing artwork by Dave still amazes me too. :D

Here is more of the great manual that Dave also designed.

I think Dave made it but I can't remember where it came from.

Don't read the following if you don't want to know where the hidden 9th level is.

EASTER EGG: There is a hidden 9th floor. To access it, first complete the original 8 levels. At the end screen, push UP. Your player will appear off the bottom of the screen. Search around the W and E again for the entrance to the 9th level. You will know when you find it. :D
