blastermaster #1 Posted November 28, 2006 i posted this in modern gaming too, but i though it would be good to have here as well. on an amazon customer review someone said they had found a place on the web that will put a backlight into your neogeo pocket for cheap. I this true? if so does anyone know how much that would cost or if it would be easy to install myself? thanks!
djmips #2 Posted November 29, 2006 I'm not familiar with the neogeo pocket but you might be able to install a dirty backlight hack with just a white LED. There was an article in Makezine recently that had a backlight hack for the GBA (original).
blastermaster #3 Posted November 29, 2006 is that easy to do? and would it work well? the guy on amazon said they jacked a backlight from an SP, is that possible?
djmips #4 Posted November 29, 2006 That sounds plausible but it doesn't sound cheap. I have a couple of Afterburner kits for the GBA for sale. You might be able to get that to work on the neoGeo but you don't sound like you have the technical savvy (yet) to do a project like that. The sky's the limit though, you can do it if you want to put the time and effort into figuring it out.
blastermaster #5 Posted November 29, 2006 (edited) i an tech savvy to an extent, but i wouldn't know exactly what i was doing in this project...if anyone has anyother ideas/link hook me up!s Djmips - i have seen those afterburner kits..how hard do you think it would be to install one on a neogeo? i am quite handy with a soldering iron. shadow460 #6 Posted December 2, 2006 I personally wouldn't jack with the screen on any portable. I've dug into three different portables all the way down to the screen, and I learned my lesson the hard way. There are a slew of really fine wires embedded into a felt pad that control the screen. If yu don't get the pads and screen aligned just right, your portable system is screwed and all the soldering skill in the world won't save it. Make a temporary mount and use a front light on the thing. It might not look pretty when its in use, but it will work without the risk of damaging your portable. If it were a cheap portable like a color or Classic Game boy, I'd say try the backlight, but the last I heard, anything Neo Geo was pretty expensive. djmips #7 Posted December 2, 2006 I agree, that you can get into trouble if you disassemble your screen to the point where you are taking apart the LCD itself. However, that is going too far. Often, you don't have to disassemble to the point of taking apart the LCD layers. Be cautioned that this might happen by accident or be required on some systems. I've never had an LCD apart that I couldnt' get back together but it is quite hard to not get dust inside one way or another.
shadow460 #8 Posted December 2, 2006 So how does the backlight go in? Do you have to lay LEDs down under the screen, or can you get something like an Indiglo layer to slide under it?
EmOneGarand #9 Posted January 10, 2007 I think I might add that they did make a Snake Light for the NGPC so if you want light and don't wanna tamper with your system you might be able to find one, I dunno if their hard to find or not though
