Mullah Atari

I didn't know where else to put this topic.....

Anyway, did you know that we all have something in common with Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr who Newsweek calls "The Most Dangerous Man In Iraq"?

In this week's Newsweek (12/4/06), there is a cover story about him. Inside (page 29-30) the article says that, referring to al-Sadr, "Some called him 'Mullah Atari', because he apparently enjoyed videogames as a kid"

Heya Leonard, its not surprising - Atari was making a sales push in the middle east in the early 80's. I seem to remember various contests, giveaways, etc. at the time being mentioned in various Atari newsletters, magazines, etc.

Why is it wrong? It's interesting but it doesn't change the fact that he's an asshole that hates the West.

Are you sure that's a fact? Or isn't it possible that it is instead just a sort of vague assumption you've formed in your own mind based on little snatches of things you've heard from U.S. government officials (or were those private think tank pundits?) that you think might have been about Muqtada al-Sadr (or some other Muslim at least) and ominous fear-mongering portrayals on the cover of Newsweek or on Dateline?

Al-Sadr has shown no signs of "hating the West" any more than anyone else in the world and it's a ridiculous stretch to say that he's anything like the most dangeous man in Iraq.

But go ahead and decide for yourself who is dangerous, just don't let people and organizations who have dangerous agendas of their own make the decision for you.

...word is bondage...

isn't it Bush who hates the east, he who illegally invades Iraq, he who wants to enforce 'his' laws onto Eastern countries, etc....we can all honestly say that it is Bush who's the more dangerous man (and his poodle Blair). Although Blair is not dangerous as such, he's just a dictators follower...

Sadr has the blood of many american soldiers on his hands (mostly from Najaf) and it's amazing that the US wimped out and didn't finish the job there when they had the chance.

What is the point? You kill him and a thousand worse radicals will instantly replace him ;)

One pissed off radical by himself can only cause so much damage on his own. A strong leader that a lot of people follow causes a LOT more damage. True leaders are not so easily replaced. Take that guy out and it's still a net gain in the end.

Yes and by all accounts the world has disposed of a dozen radical leaders who have all been replaced by men with the mentality of mad dogs. I am not saying ignore them but recent history shows that there is no end to these maniacs ;)
