+Propane13 #1 Posted December 8, 2006 I was thinking to pick up this title for Christmas. Anybody ever played this? I thought it might be a fun "head-to-head" game. There aren't any Mortal Kombat style games out there; so, I think this is the closest. Any opinions? -John
godzillajoe #2 Posted December 8, 2006 Video Game Critic gave it a C+ Which must mean it's decent because he hates everything http://www.videogamecritic.net/2600ss.htm
Recycled #3 Posted December 8, 2006 Video Game Critic gave it a C+ Which must mean it's decent because he hates everything http://www.videogamecritic.net/2600ss.htm yea....If he gives something an "F" I'll probably love it!!
NovaXpress #4 Posted December 8, 2006 No Mortal Kombat-style games? What about the amazing Karate by Froggo? It looks and plays just like Mortal Kombat. If you've taken a great deal of LSD, that is.
godzillajoe #5 Posted December 8, 2006 Oh that reminds me to update my list of simulataneous 2 player games. How cuold I have left Karate off of it? I assume that one is 2 player? I might have to pick up Sword Fight as well.
NovaXpress #6 Posted December 8, 2006 Karate does have 2-player simultaneous action but you won't enjoy it, that's for damn sure.

Atarifever #9 Posted December 8, 2006 (edited) Which must mean it's decent because he hates everything http://www.videogamecritic.net/2600ss.htm That's one of the more wrong things I've ever read. As a matter of fact, he's much nicer to the supercharger than you are. Edited December 8, 2006 by Atarifever
godzillajoe #10 Posted December 8, 2006 Well, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. It was a joke anyway. I like reading his site. I don't always agree, but what fun would it be if I did? And I don't *really* hate the Supercharger, I do think it's a *bit* overrated because it's kind of rare but I had my reasons for slamming it. Mainly to see what games everyone would defend and call me an ass for not liking. Those would be the first ones I would sit down and really try to get into to see what i was missing. and now that I've told you my little secret, I'll have to kill you..... Yea. everything aside...I think the VGC has a kick ass site. (even though he trashes some of my beloved games).

I don't always agree with any reviewer, but I actually think his reviews are among the most fair I've seen (for example, he gave GTA:SA a B-, instead of the usual A+ of many reviewers). Still, maybe you disagree with him as a 7800 fan. That I would definitely understand. He gave Pole Position 2 a D- for basically not being Super Mario Bros. and because Pole Position 2 is like Pole Position 1. If you've taken a great deal of LSD, that is. The figures in FROGGO'S KARATE look more like they're disco dancing ,instead of fighting. The game is soooooo bad,its hilarious, and is worth owning just for that reason!but a charming game though! godzillajoe #15 Posted December 8, 2006 Karate looks like ASCII art. Like the kinda games I would write in BASIC as a kid. What's not to love?
PressureCooker2600 #16 Posted December 8, 2006 i'd be lucky if i could even MAKE a homebrew anywhere near Karate's quality

Gateway #18 Posted December 9, 2006 I bought Sword Fight mainly for the unique way the character sprites are made( using PF ), but also wanted it for the "Star Wars" like theme. Unfortunately I haven't found anybody to play it with me long enough to form my opinion about the gameplay.
Rik #19 Posted December 9, 2006 (edited) Karate looks like ASCII art. Like the kinda games I would write in BASIC as a kid. What's not to love? True, and respectfully taken, but back in the day when you spent as in the case here in Canada(where everything costs double, than in the U.S)$40-60 for a game cartridge, you'd expect better quality than a ASCII basic based game cart ,especially from a company, who are supposed to be pros, with programmers who have programming experience, but, yes,ALL games have a certain charm to them,pac-man,karate,e.t,squeeze box, etc. And Froggo games DID look like they were programmed by 13 year old kids. But now some can be had for a couple of bucks,so it doesn't hurt the wallet as much to try dud games. PressureCooker2600 #20 Posted December 9, 2006 heck yea.....all atari games have a little charm......i just got done buying a copy of squeeze box
supercat #21 Posted December 9, 2006 And Froggo games DID look like they were programmed by 13 year old kids Did Froggo actually program any original games? All their carts I'm familiar with are rereleases or hacks (licensed?) of other company's games. I'm guessing they were probably licensed, since if Froggo just wanted to rip off programmers they would have more likely ripped off something good. Likely conversation: Froggo rep: Hey, we're looking for a game cartridge. Could we buy Karate off you for $10.00? Ultravision rep: Sure, we've got a boatload of these unsold cartridges. Froggo: I don't mean a cartridge--I mean the rights to produce it ourselves. Ultravision: Even better. If we want to make the cartridges yourselves you can have it for $5.00.
