+orpheuswaking
I've never seen one of those boxes before mino, can you explain anymore about it? Is the original Atari 800XL box inside or what? HEY, That's how I got my first 800 XL :) I had no idea what you were talking about earlier in the thread, but now I've seen it, it all makes sense
Dropcheck
Call the Doctor! Call the Doctor someone! I have Atari fever again. It must be like malaria. Once you have it, you can never really get rid of it. I thought I beat it some twenty years ago. But it's back again and with a vengence. Over the last two weeks I have been reaquiring Atari 8bit equipment again. Some I lusted after the first time around, but couldn't afford then. Just out of college and living on my own for the first time ya know. To date: 1 800XL (Stock except for salvaged OmnimonXL/OmniView 256 board) 1 800XL (OmniView 256 with 256k Ram) 2 130XE (1 completely buggered except for the OminmonXL/OmniView 256 board that I saved, 1 that puts a red screen up without a ready prompt and buzzs) 3 1050 Floppy Drives (1 Happy, 1 Stock and 1 just doesn't want to run) 1 1027 with the advance wheel broken and missing 1 1010 that won't play 1 MPP 1150 with passthru SIO port 1 each Pac-Man, Star Raiders, Missle Command and Centipede carts (no manuals) Assorted manuals and brochures I have more coming but condition unknown. Isn't it fun? Gosh I better do another search on ebay, see what else is being offered. Later.....

calfranklin
Well. let see think for a moment. I bought a boxed "Darth Vader" 2600 with 6 boxed games, several Atari Age magazines (I now have the complete set, minus the 2 B/W newsletters), 57 total Antic magazines (boy, I love browsing through them in my spare time), several original disk sleeves (like Archon Adept 2, I need to locate the disk for this one), Jumbo Jet cart in original clamshell case, Atari Timewise sealed from B&C Computervisions (those guys have it all!) and two rare Atari books, "Musical Atari" and "31 Atari Programs." I barely lost the bid on a boxed 800 computer (why did I let this slip away?) and a boxed 827 printer (again, lost it within 2 bucks). Then my wife started screaming at me to stop for now!! calfranklin
I just got a copy of the book "Zap! The Rise and Fall of Atari", by Scott Cohen. Should be a good read. Have you read this book yet? I'm thinking about getting it, but I read several negative reviews on Amazon. It is accurate?

I just read an interesting review on this book in Antic 12/83 issue. So this means this book was originally published 83-84. This reviewer doubted Mr. Cohen knowledge of computers and felt he didn't really care about what he was saying about Atari. What do you think? Did he make it sound like he had first hand knowledge of early 80's computers and Atari?

Did he make it sound like he had first hand knowledge of early 80's computers and Atari? The book was written pre-Tramiel era, so it is missing the time period that I first encountered Atari. There is also a lack of technical information, but I read this book as more of an insight into the business side of the corporation. If I remember correctly, Mr Cohen is 'candid' about atari, and appears to be trying to be honest regarding his views of the company. To be blunt, I wouldn't pay too much for this book (I don't think I did). It's an interesting read, but not an essential part of my collection. yorgle
AtariWriter System arrived today. Complete with box, no manuals. 600XL looks good but supposedly doesn't work. Bought it for the working 1027 printer to replace my dead one. I plan to gut the old 1027 and use the case as a master case to house all the hardware upgrades to my 800XL such as IDE and SIO2PCUSB. The 600XL has a really nice keyboard which I might swap into my 800XL if they are compatible.
