rheffera #1 Posted December 14, 2006 (edited) As some of you may be aware i have stated earlier im moving, during mid janurary or early feburary but i have just discoverd i have a multi standard tv in the house AND discoverd a bunch of games off US ebay at $1.00 buy it now tuns of em that i dont have and would be annoying and perhaps expensive to get the PAL version of( warplock, 20th century fox games etc) so i have realised i could significantly expand my collection for say 30$ US including postage to austrralia., and then just play em on the multi standard TV. So very, very tempting. So if anyone can give reasons NOT to buy thatd be sweet. Might be asking the wrong crowd. if you want to give reasons to do it thats fine also. i wont blame you. Recycled #2 Posted December 14, 2006 I'd only get them if I really wanted them. I wouldn't waste the money just to "have" them. I only get carts I know I'm going to play. (unless of course, someone gives them to me).
Chickybaby #3 Posted December 14, 2006 (edited) If you are moving that early then most carts can be bought at any time, sometimes even found for less later. But especially when there is a sale at the AA store - holiday and limited edition homebrews are another story. black dog #4 Posted December 14, 2006 I agree. My funds aren't great right now, so I'm only going to pick up the Holiday cart. When I get more money I'll pick up some of the other games that have just come out. Fight the urge, you will always be able to get them later.
BassGuitari #5 Posted December 14, 2006 If you simply have too many of the blasted things, and they are becoming a logistical problem. Of course, you probably don't live in a sardine can like I do. And if space isn't an issue, I can't think of a reason not to buy them, unless they're duplicates (which you could theoretically resell for probably close to what you paid for them, which would bring you back to where you were to begin with, so why bother?), or you really need the money for something more important. Since your television handles both NTSC and PAL, if all else is equal, I'd say go nuts! There is virtually no 2600 game you wouldn't be able to play. AussieAtari #6 Posted December 15, 2006 So I gather from this that a PAL 2600 plays NTSC games with no issues with the colour? BTW, surface shipping from the states is taking between 10-12 weeks at the moment (air mail is bloody expensive but "only" takes 2-3 weeks) so you will plenty of time to settle into your new house if you were to buy now. There is only one "r" in Australia.
Atari Charles #7 Posted December 15, 2006 Buy the carts you like because you like the games or artwork on the box or labels. I personally like the work done on the Taiwanese Pirate Carts made by Sanchio and Rainbowvision. Just really cool artwork.

I just ordered one which was Phantom II. I plan on ordering another just after Xmas but cannot decide between the Holiday Cart (which looks like a really difficult game) or the ET Book Cart because the Landfill game looks so cool. I should make up my mind between now and then when others who ordered start ranting about them WP
madhatter667 #9 Posted December 15, 2006 Hmm... interesting problem. Can you easily afford to do that? Have them forwarded to your new upcoming address? Is the money needed elsewhere (what on earth does that mean?!?!). There are plenty of reasons for getting them, and for waiting. If they really are cheaper than the PAL stuff, you could always get an NTSC VCS and get a power adapter for it...since you have a multi region TV, playing wouldn't be an issue, and you could get the game in full colour. That's what I would do personally. I DON'T know if PAL VCS/2600s are expensive or not, but you should be able to get a NTSC one for next to nothing...especially from one of the guys here. That would be my first step (I know...I'm just an enabler... ya get that with all hobbies!). Good times!
Mayhem #10 Posted December 15, 2006 So I gather from this that a PAL 2600 plays NTSC games with no issues with the colour? Oh there will be colour issues, but that's about it for the most part. It doesn't affect me much because the majority of the new games have PAL versions available, and I own an S-video modded NTSC 7800 to play all the NTSC only games instead.
