carmel_andrews #1 Posted December 15, 2006 Havent seen or heard anything in ages last steem i had was 32debug last saint was 199g last winston i had was v5 Any noos. Also will steem be extended to emulating 030/40 based atari systems (TT/Falcon) And the same applies to saint/winston i have heard of this 'aranym', however it seems to only output in b&w, also it doesn't seem to like USB joysticks nor any of the ST disk images (automation, dbug, vectronix etc etc) that's the only falcon/tt type emu that i have seen
Christos #2 Posted December 15, 2006 About the ST emulators. Winston's dead, steem might get an update eventually and so might saint. But that is something we can only hope for and I don't see it in the near future. I don't think STEEM or Saint will ever become falcon or TT emulators. About ARANYM. ARANYM stands for Atari Running on Any Machine and it's not an emulator of an existing atari machine, but rather an idea of what the Atari Falcon might have been today if Atari hadn't discontinued it (and died later on) and if Motorola had continued the production of the 68K series. There is some limited falcon emulation but it is not a clock cycle one (especially since ARANYM emulates a 040 machine) and it is not intended either. ARANYM is primarily intended for everyday computing use and IMHO it does that very well since most GEM apps work straight from the box. And for the record it doesn't only work in B&W but in any resolution provided by the host machine's hardware. The way I use ARANYM is complimentary to my falcon's use. Rybags #3 Posted December 15, 2006 Saint is probably the most user-friendly of the ST apps. STeem IMO just has too many annoyances. Winston was probably the first one I used but I quickly dropped it once I discovered Saint. Funny thing about the ST - there's probably been more emulators made for it than just about any other system.
ggn #4 Posted December 15, 2006 WinSTon is not dead! It simply got open source and got renamed to hatari! (http://hatari.atari.org). Falcon compatibility was recently added, and you can even watch quite some falcon demos in it! Don't expect anything perfect yet though! Aranym is what Chris said, a TOS clone. But I don't like it too much - seems too hackish for my tastes. As for the rest of the emulators, they seem to be in hiatus...
carmel_andrews #5 Posted December 17, 2006 is winton...the new version...windoze compatible (as i've always associated open source with the linux mob)

jens #7 Posted December 17, 2006 as i've always associated open source with the linux mob You don't seem to be too well informed about the fact that there's loads of open source projects for any and all platforms? Just have a look at e.g. Open Office which has a port for Windows as well.
Rybags #8 Posted December 17, 2006 Just check SourceForge.net - thousands of projects, many of them Windows specific.

carmel_andrews #11 Posted December 18, 2006 GGN...as the french say, merci beaucoup messieur ( i'm guessing your a bloke/man) Will it work with the TOS images used with steem You mention STE compatability, like in winston v2r2 (is this only semi ste or full ste compatability( Have you also fixed the prob. regarding loading 'rtype', it keeps crashing on the 'electric dreams logo' screen (other winstons/stew) Lastly will it be capable of emu the higher end m/c like TT/falcon (030 and 040 emulation, as i have TT and falcon rom images)
ggn #12 Posted December 18, 2006 So, download url of last night's CVS is here: http://users.hol.gr/~ggn/hatari-binary.zip STE compatibility has improved since winston. Hatari is the only one to emulate Paradox's "Pacemaker" demo properly which is STE only! Ok, for falcon compatibility mode you need a newer TOS. 4.0x can be found on the internet, or from your falcons I won't say much more. This is CVS version. It might be broken. I tried it and it worked. So have a play with it hand have fun! Report any problems to me, not the list, as it's my personal build!

+remowilliams #14 Posted December 18, 2006 So, download url of last night's CVS is here: http://users.hol.gr/~ggn/hatari-binary.zip Cool, I gave a quick run a building a windows binary, but it kept complaining about zlib. Though I was using Msys not Cygwin for the build. And this stuff is always cranky under Windows. I've built Hatari on my MBP and even my PS3!
