How about a 2600 Moon Cresta?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever thought of home brewing this one?

I have fond memories of playing this game at the Pizza Hut when I was a kid and waiting for my pie to arrive.

Doesn't seem like there's anything gameplay-wise going on to prevent a decent 2600 port with some flicker

Just curious if anyone has ever considered it

Why doesn't someone program a 2600 version of [RANDOM GAME SELECTED FROM KLOV]

Don't you all think that would be cool?

I thought so.

And out of the mouths of babes come eternal wisdom. Pity it doesn't apply to Nova Express ;)

Eh, everyone has their "thing"

You get used to it after a while

Personally I think he's just some kind of bot that responds with snarky comments based on keywords in posts

Like that Subservient Chicken website that Burger King had up for a while

"mock up screens" results in "why don't you learn what the 2600 can realistically do you moron"

variations of "someone should program" gives you the response above.

The next time I'm bored I'll just pick a game from KLOV and type up another "has anyone ever considered a home brew of (insert game)" and wait for the fun to start.

Yeah I think Moon Cresta is a little more than a random game. It was a pretty big deal throughout much of the world...although for some reason I get the impression it wasn't that big a hit in the U.S. But yeah for a good while you couldn't go into any movie theater, shopping center, pizza parlor, (and when I travelled with my family, at most any arcade in Japan).. and basically anywhere without seeing and hearing the Moon Cresta song :)

I say it's a good idea. Moon Cresta is pretty much up there with Galaxian & Space Invaders in my humble opinion as far as the 'notables' :D

A pirate Moon Cresta machine is among the first games I played as a kid. The sound programming also stands out.

Why was this never licensed for home use? Seems like something Coleco would have grabbed up...

There are several shooters from the 80's era that are missing from the 2600 lineup. Moon Cresta and Astro Blaster are two of the best that come to mind.

Astro Blaster was released as Megamania.

As for Moon Cresta, its alien movements would be almost impossible to port to the 2600 without severely compromising what made Moon Cresta unique. Unlike Space Invaders, Galaxian, and Phoenix, Moon Cresta's design doesn't mesh with any of the 2600's strengths.
