hbomb #1 Posted December 24, 2006 Yes, I do play from time to time, but just as importantly, I find myself collecting for the joy of just collecting. I have games that I've never opened and are just sitting there. The box artwork, manuals, comic books, etc. that come with the games are just as important to me as the gameplay itself. In fact, it might be even more so. For example, I know that the ET game sucks...I had it as a kid and it still sucks today, but the memory of such an iconic movie in a video game makes it a necessary collection item. Same with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Pac Man. I also have the Journey Escape game, not because its fun to play, but because I remember the artwork and playing that damn music cassette over and over again on car trips thinking about that hot 5th grade girl I was dreaming about holding hands with. Man have times changed for 5th graders!! I also collect Commodore 64, Nintendo NES, and Colecovision all for the same reasons. If I can't physically go back in time, these games/consoles lend a hand mentally, if only for a short while in my busy life. I'm sure that others feel the same way, but I was feeling a little nostalic tonight and thought that I'd get sentimental and look like a puss to you guys tonight. So, Merry Christmas to everyone and I'll go buy another game just for the hell of it!!
shadow460 #2 Posted December 24, 2006 I collect like that, but I try to give all my games screen time. I've been grabbing up some games like that recently--mainly to have the effect of the boxes on my shelf (they are Saturn games, though). Sometimes it's not the having, it's not the wanting--it's the hunt. I was pretty stressed after work Friday, and I went on the hunt just to calm down. +atari2600land #3 Posted December 24, 2006 I kinda collect that way, too, but before I ask for a game, I'll usually play a binary file of it to make sure that I'll actually play it a lot. As for my NES collecting, when I go to the used video game store, I usually pick my games depending on the title and genre and what I think I'll like.
