Would anyone mind comparing 5200 M.U.L.E. to the NES version?

I didn't buy a M.U.L.E. when I should have (5200.) Is the NES version close? If not, whats the 5200 version run?

The 5200 version is a straight conversion of the Atari 800 version. I haven't played the NES version.

nes version is decent from what i can remember......i also think it used an adaptor to make the game 4 players.......havent played it in years so i may be wrong........(runs to go buy a copy of M.U.L.E. now)

I think that was one of the games converted and put on cart but never dumped as a rom.

Bryan did make a limited edition run of MULE cartridges. He also released the rom image, you can find it here:

I like the 5200/8-bit version better. I have both. The NES one looks funky, and looses most of the charm of the original IMHO.

 

The music on the the 5200 one is great, one of the most memorable tunes of the era. Used to get it stuck in my head after we had a neighborhood get together to play it as a kid.

The only thing that equals the Atari version is the C64 version naturally. Though the SID music on the game is a classic too.

C64 version is missing something IMO. I think the music is better on the Atari version, and the graphics are "shinier" somehow. Especially evident in the intro.

I was just gonna say that, I have both versions, C-64 and XL; they screwed up the C-64 title music, and the gameplay wins on the XL slightly.

C64 uses keyboard for two of the players during the buy/sell part. I think you trade joysticks with players 1 or 2 during your actual turn IIRC.

Yep, you just use one joystick during the land sections. During auction, you have two sticks and two keyboard if need be. If I get myself a 5200, I'll be able to compare C64 to Atari then finally.
