Arcade #1 Posted December 25, 2006 Now, I'm not much for graphics. As long as the gameplay rocks, I'm fine. So in your opinion, be it homebrew or not, which games had: 1) Best title screen graphics? 2) Best gameplay graphics? For me, E.T. takes the title screen. I'm sorry, but E.T. looks breathtakingly awesome. As for gameplay graphics....I really couldn't say. I haven't played as many games as everyone else on here, so it's difficult for me to decide. homerwannabee #2 Posted December 25, 2006 As far as Graphics I would give the honor to either H.E.R.O. or Pitfall
deadmeow #3 Posted December 25, 2006 I think Montezuma's Revenge has the best graphics. It is comparable to the more powerful ports (C-64, Atari 8 bit, Colecovision, etc..)
Dragnerok X #4 Posted December 25, 2006 (edited) Solaris? Thrust? How about Andrew Davie's Chronocolor? Edited December 25, 2006 by Dragnerok X
shadow460 #5 Posted December 25, 2006 Best graphics is really hard to nail down to a single title, but Starpath and Imagic have a lot of titles that look awesome. Most of them are fun to play, too. I think making good graphics on the 2600 doesn't really include flashy effects--it is about a programmer who knew the ropes and pushed them to just the right place. Combat looks clean, but the visuals are very simple. Couple of planes, couple of clouds, and there you are. Other games tried to overdo it, like Tunnel Runner, and their visuals took it on the chin. Not that TR isn't fun--even though it looks terrible, it's a blast to play. Ditto for Miner 2049er. The games that come to mind for stellar graphics are Phaser Patrol, Escape From The MindMaster (it smokes the CV port in every way), Atlantis, and maybe Subterranea. Still, the 2600's graphics are a lot like its stock controllers. They're not the best--probably nowhere near it, but they get the job done and that's all that matters. +atari2600land #7 Posted December 26, 2006 I think Midnite Magic and Pole Position have pretty good graphics as far as the first half of original games go.
