Atari-Jess #1 Posted December 29, 2006 According to AA did-you-know: "Secret Quest was the last game released for the 2600 in the U.S." Is this absolute? meaning, is this genuinely the last Atari branded 2600 game ever released for the US? What is the evidence? If we're going by model numbers: Ikari Warriors Red CX26177 Radar Lock Red CX26176 Xenophobe Red CX26172 Motorodeo Red CX26171 Secret Quest Red CX26170 It would appear not to be the last released. If you go by the labels Xenophobe and Motorodeo both have copyright dates of 1990. The rest say 1989. However, this of course doesn't mean it wasn't, the game very well could have been simply the last to be completed, manufactured, and put on the shelves. I would just like to know what proof there is to back this claim.
Foxsolo2000 #2 Posted December 29, 2006 Somewhere in this forum there is a thread that answers that question. You just have to search for it

bcprs1 #8 Posted December 29, 2006 All I can add was that I was shocked to see it sitting on the shelf at the local Lechmere's in 1990. I went to the video game section to look at NES games and out of the corner of my eye, I saw the familiar red and white 2600 package. It was the only 2600 game they had. $6 later, it was mine. I can remember being so excited and shocked to see a new 2600 game. It stinks that some of the other later titles never made it to Massachusetts. Uzumaki #12 Posted December 30, 2006 Best guess: Secret Quest was the last *common* game sold through Atari. Problem solved.
Gregory DG #13 Posted December 30, 2006 Aren't those CX numbers assigned to games long before they're even completed and/or released? If that's the case, then Secret Quest may have been the last game to physically be released by Atari, even though the number doesn't reflect it. I think that was agreed on the thread I was talking about. CX numbers dont follow a rational pattern which is why Secret Quest could have indeed been the last release in the US. I will have to find the link
midget35 #15 Posted December 30, 2006 hehe ... Foxsolo2000: international man of mystery! On a side note- there are few better examples of the 2600's staying power than to think SQ hit the stores while the SNES' zelda 3 was well into development. Quite the run that system had. nester #22 Posted January 3, 2007 I remember that old topic. I'm not sure if anyone could ever truly decide what the last game released was. I also remember researching the last Sega Master System game in America. I can't remember, but I think I figured it out and nobody seemed very excited aobut the discovery. I guess you gotta know your audience sometimes.
Foxsolo2000 #23 Posted January 3, 2007 I am surprised to discover that the 1991 Missile Command was a black label??? Was there ever a red label of the game released?
