XBOX 360 beats Wii and PS3 this Xmas

Recommended Posts

Thought the Wii had it, but I love my 360 too, so I'm happy.

And for those of you who are still in some kind of denial that the PS3 is not

indeed the new PS-3DO...

I have seen piles of them in Circuit City, Best Buy, EB and Gamestop this weekend.

Once again, when a good game comes out, and the price drops, I will be picking up a PS3.

I am just fascinated at (what to me looks like) a complete disaster for Sony.

I wonder if the wii would have outsold the 360 if more units had been in stock?

Either way it's pretty impressive for both systems.

i seen two ps3's at EBGames and i couldn't believe that i could already find one, it took me until late march for me to find the 360, i found it at the perfect time too, just when oblivion came out.

Hmmm Hard to say. I think the Wii would have probably taken the lead if that was the case, altho maybe not, the two systems are like night and day. Maybe folks who held off getting a 360 until all 3 new systems were released, decided the 360 was the way to go. In any case. Yeah Sony...trying to force a new media on consumers appears to be screwing themselves again. I don't get it. Aren't you supposed to learn from past mistakes.

As much as I love the 360, I would have to say that the Wii would have out sold it if there had been enough available.

I just finished Zelda. 52 hours. One of the best games I have ever played.

However, after playing around with Elebits for a while, I am prepared for the Wii to take a long winter's nap.

In the meantime, Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Viva Pinata, Gears of War on the 360, and good ole Guitar Hero 2 on the PS2 will keep me satisfied.

Come now just go watch your beta max tapes, listen to some mini discs and relax - Sony has it all in hand. I actually don't think Blu-Ray is a bad idea. Even if it goes down and HD-DVD becomes the standard movie format it doesn't affect the storage and fidelity of PS3 games at all. Just the high cost incorporating the drive in the system is hurting them.

I also agree the wii probably would have outsold the 360 had there been more units. It's new and it's cheaper with a pack in game and an excellent game available (zelda). I think if Sony had more systems available when the rush was on they could have sold more as well.

This I don't agree with. The mad rush to snatch up systems seemed to be fueled by the desire to re-sell them for a profit. Once the people willing to buy them for $100's more than their worth disappeared, so did the rush.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but if there had been enough to go around and people weren't paying outrageous amounts for them on eBay, I think the folks that did pay $800-$1200 on eBay would have just bought theirs for $599.99 and since there was no profit to be made the rest would sit there. (Like now)

All the 360s disappeared from the local Wal-Mart this year (and not last year oddly, so I think people really were waiting for all the systems to drop first) and Wiis didn't even hit the shelves before being sold. Meanwhile the PS3s just sit there. It's hilarious.

I love this logic in one reply to that article:

InFeXiOn says:

The reason is simple - people are broke. Sure, haters are going to argue that this just accurately demonstrates how poorly the PS3 is doing, but that's not the case. If you have the money to buy a PS3 after Christmas, that probably makes you rich, and if you were rich.. you likely already got your PS3; no?

So the argument is that only rich people can afford PS3s, so obviously it is a smash success? Right.

The argument is that people spent all their expendable cash before Christmas. Of course its bunk. If people wanted it that bad they would buy it. But I think most people can wait. If I saw a unit available I could buy one on the spot. That dosn't make me rich. I am middle-class and have a good job. That is all it takes. But, I will not buy a PS3 for $600 when I got a 360 on launch day for $200 less and they are practically equal. I never purchased a PS2 because I didn't feel it was a good product and worth my money (though I will likely pick one up the moment it drops to $99 just as I did with the GC though I feel the GC is worth more then a PS2.) The PS3 appears to be a decent product and I may get one eventually but I will never pay $600 for it.

Never say never! I told myself that I would never buy an XBox 360 at $400 and I would wait until at least one price drop. :ponder: Well I got impatient and picked one up for the "kids" ;) for Christmas. I'm glad I bought it, even though it goes against all of my principles of cheapness! :D

I don't think MS is too pleased with their numbers. The amount of quality titles they have out there should have moved more units for them. I think the January to June sales of consoles will be the real telling numbers.

I still see people lined up in front of Best Buy on days they advertise the Wii being in stock. It's Zany! (Dec 29th was the last time I saw this).

Haven't seen the PS3's sitting around in stores but I haven't been actively looking either.

PSP's are surprisingly moving well... Metal Gear was the ticket it seems.

And the DS Lite... that thing is selling amazingly well!

Yeah with all that expendable money gone then we should see the wii's piling up as well right?

No mention of the PS2 running away with all the sales?

Oh the tragedy!

I doubt I will have that problem. Since I have a 360 I feel no rush to get a PS3 (and I barely feel any desire to get one.) I think it will be 2+ years before I consider purchasing one. A Wii on the otherhand... point me to the store that has one in stock.

Now that blows me away. Seriously, the thing has sold over what 115 million already and is still selling huge numbers month after month. This report about holiday sales was only aimed at next gen though and it also is a little unfair. I think it goes from November 1 til December 24th. So in reality, MS had 54 days, Sony 37 and Nintendo 35. Looking at that, the wii did the best no doubt. Also, official numbers have not been released yet so in another week, you'll see the real numbers.

The story should be titled "High Definition hands low def Wii a Xmas beatdown"

Umm, the Xbox 360 sold 2million units and the Wii sold 1.8million units. I hardly call that a beat down by any stretch of the imagination.

Forgot to mention that when the 360 came out it was not until about a month after oblivion came out that I was even lucky enough to find one. Sure they were having supply problems, but my point is people were snagging them up as soon as they'd appear.

Yeah but it makes me giggle and it easily riles up the low def set. Also, the 360 is $400, so to still outsell the cheaper (and I mean that in EVERY sense of the word) Wii is a damn fine achievement.

I have to say though, I do not think the Xbox beat the Wii due to lack of interest in the Wii. I think that it was more due to lack of availability for the Wii.

The 360 has been a smash success and I am happy.

According to NPD spokesperson David Riley, NPD has yet to release December's numbers.

"NPD's December/year-end sales data will become available January 11," he said. :ponder:
