Question about the mods here. Especially in the Jaguar section.

Recommended Posts

Okay all, look at this please, and I am not trying to stir up trouble, but asking a serious question. I don't post too much here these days as I am mainly a Jaguar fan and the Jaguar forums here are not very active, it is the way things are, the rest of the site is hopping, and that is cool, but why is it that every time something comes here in the Jaguar threads from JSII, all Hell breaks loose? I am not defending anyones actions at all, but even looking at things, I understand that Frog left a nasty comment for CPUWIZ/Tempest, but there was nasty comments thrown at Frog as well from both mods and members, but why is it that Frog was singled out as the instigator on the whole thing and he was the only one publically called on about it? Again, I am not trying to make trouble and have tried to stay out of the petty little war that has been brewing between the two boards, but I don't understand what is up wuith this as if you are going to talk trash about the people starting crap, wouldn't it be more useful to get the whole group and not just single out one that may not be the most popular person on the site? The fact that this goes on is a reason that alot of the people stay away as when we come here, us JSII members, we cannot defend ourselves from comments thrown our way as we seem to be the brunt of the blame when crap goes down. It's almost like trouble starts just because we post here and I am trying to understand why. Not trying to start a flame war, just asking a question, please don't answer this defensively as I did not call names or come here in a negative manner, just wanting to know why.

How many posts do you see on AA that openly disparage JSII?

Now ask yourself the same about JSII...

The other forums are thriving because users can go to them and post what they like, in terms of their feelings and opinions (within the forums rules) and others can agree, disagree and discuss.

In the Jaguar forum, we have seen time and again, that if you do not consistently and blindly agree with certain individuals they will begin to behave in a manner that is against the forum guidelines. If there are other places they are more comfortable posting because of a similar mindset then perhaps that is where they should be.

You also shouldn't feel that JSII users are "identified" somehow - the behaviour is what is being singled out.

It is a gaming website, not a lifestyle. Enjoy it and others for what they are.

The nasty comments Frog left Tempest and CPUWIZ were much worse than anything anyone had said to Gorf previously. Saying someone has an ego (which Gorf later admitted to being true) because they filed a patent for a programming technique on a dead system is not nearly as bad as what Gorf slung afterwards. And yes, CPUWIZ called Gorf a "Punk" when locking another thread, mainly because he's tired of having to clean up after Gorf when he loses his temper. To turn around and then call CPUWIZ a "nAAzi" (and CPU is German) and also call him a "cunt" was totally uncalled for. And Gorf then tried to defend himself privately to me saying that "punk" is the same as "cunt" where he lives in New Jersey. Nobody said anything "nasty" to Gorf--in my opinion, he totally overreacted to the situation, and this is not the first time he has done that here.

As I explained privately to Gorf, if had kept his cool and responded to criticism with a level head, then he could have averted what took place. He had it well within his power to keep things under control. This is not unlike what happened earlier when the game Gorf was released and people were asking if the game was legitimately licensed. Rather than try to calmly defend his position, he decided to fly off the handle and instead of having a fun discussion about the merits of his game, Gorf felt as if everyone here was rallying against him, which was far from the case.

Anyone is more than welcome to defend themselves, but if you can't do so in a calm manner without inciting flaming, then your threads are going to get locked (and if you keep doing it, you'll lose your posting privileges). The Jaguar forum is the only forum we have problems with consistently, and probably accounts for 90% of the threads that have ever been locked on AtariAge. If anyone thinks they can't come over here and talk about the Jaguar because they fear their threads are going to get deleted or locked (or worse, get banned), then you are drinking too much of the negative AA Kool-Aid that has been passed around. If Gorf and others would not get highly defensive when someone dares be critical in any fashion of something they are doing, that would go a long way towards maintaining civil, calm discussions that everyone can participate in.

If anyone has any questions about how the moderation is done here (and trust me, compared to many forums, AtariAge is pretty lightly moderated), please feel free to write me directly.
