Seems to me I probably posted something about golf somewhere in this blog. Let me check...

Ah yes. I mentioned getting an Atari golf hat, and made a couple of mentions of golf games for the Wii. Also, I mentioned I picked up Tiger Woods' golf for the iPhone.

Here's the title screen...

Today was the final round in the Masters golf tournament - Tiger's first tournament since he flushed his private life right down the toilet.

And he didn't win. He played alternating holes of brilliant golf, and train-wreck golf. And at times, showed the maturity and composure of a three-year-old. (Apologies to any three-year-olds who are reading this. But seriously... reading at this level at only three? That's pretty good!)

Of course, before the rest of the players had even finished, the media was already interviewing Tiger. And of course, despite coming in fourth place in one of the most difficult tournaments in professional golf, and walking home with $360,000 for four days' worth of playing a game, all he could talk about was how disappointed he was in how he played, and that he didn't win. Not how well others played. Not how he was glad to be back playing again. Not how grateful he was that his wife hadn't divorced his sorry self yet, and she let him out of the house to play golf. And not that he was grateful to be able to make more money losing than many people will ever see in their entire lives. Nope. Just about how bummed out he was, and he wasn't sure when he was going to come back and play again, because if he isn't sure he can win he won't even enter a tournament in the first place. Poor Tiger.

And while I'll grant you that Tiger Woods may be the best golfer to ever play the game... can't the media please just shut up about him already? After the tournament, the big news was "When will Tiger play again?" "How will this affect Tiger's pursuit of Jack Nicklaus' record?" "Would Phil Mickelson have actually won if Tiger hadn't taken four months off?" "When will Tiger be able to move past his personal crisis and get back to being the player he used to be?"

Excuse me... "Personal crisis?" Gimme a break! His personal crisis was that he got caught.

I couldn't possibly care less about Tiger Woods' whiney, self-absorbed, poor-loser, sound-bites. I don't want to hear from him anymore.

They should instead be focusing on Phil Mickelson's victory.

The man is a class act. Very gracious. And he went through a genuine family crisis this year. His wife and mom both battled breast cancer. That's enough to make anyone an emotional wreck. At the Masters, Phil was playing for his family. This was never more clear than after winning, when he went to hug his wife, who was able to be with him at a tournament for the first time in months. The power and emotion of that moment showed that in the end, the most precious thing about the day was not the tournament, but that he was able to be there with his wife. That she was still there for him to be able to hold. And it seemed like he never wanted to let go. The rest of the tournament just fell away in that very private, yet very public moment. That's who Phil played for and won for. Not himself.

Tiger should take notes.

In my reality Tiger's press conference went something like (sanitised): "Yep, I made it with her. She threw herself at me and who was I to say no? You guys are just jealous 'cause I'm gettin' some without having to pay for it. Come on, it's either take 'em to bed or beat 'em off with one of my <sponsor> clubs. And I'm sure they'd rather me get some tail than be guilty of violence against women. I'd love to tell you more, but I have some twins who are ready, willing, and waiting."

Why do people always stereotype other people? Why must a golf professional be holy where a football player can be evil? Why does the image mean more than the profession?

E.g. I do not like someone like Schumacher personally (IMO Damian Hill or Mika Häkkinen seem much nicer persons, if I had to chose someone for a holiday trip, I would favor them over Schumacher all day), but I am still a fan of Schumacher because of his wonderful profession. And that's what should count first, not if he has a beautiful wife or donates all his money for charity.

Actually I am sick of all those streamlined professionals which have been trained to look good at TV. I blame this on the advertising business which helps them so make absurd money if they play a certain role. Thanks to stupid customers who buy those lies.

And they do "play" that role! I watched some excerpts of Tiger Woods eating humble pie. That was terribly disgusting! He is a great golf player but a very, very bad actor. Does anyone actually believe a word he said? To me it was like he was begging on his knees to get his million $$$ sponsor contracts back and there was not a single fraction of self respect left.

If I would be interested in golf, I would still respect him as a great player. But outside the golf green, I can only recognize him as a dirty liar (and that's NOT because of his private life!), a money hooker who sold his soul.

That's exactly how I saw it as well.

I'm beginning to wonder about his charities. What's the underlying motivation there? Is it really to help other people? Or is it more ego stroking? "Look how people admire me when I give away a fraction of my wealth to poor kids. I bet women think that's really hot!" I hate to think that's the case, but I really wonder...

For a contrast, look at someone like John Daly. He's had no end of problems with his very public personal life. Alcoholism, divorces, gambling... yet John never makes himself out to be anything other than what he is, and people like him more than Tiger, because John comes across as an honest, if flawed, nice guy. People are rooting for him to return to winning golf tournaments, probably because they can identify with someone like him more than they ever could with Tiger.

I don't know this guy, but IMO there is way too much PC invloved here.

By those standards, German TV would sound like "Ich beep auf die beep beep!"
