Nine of Diamonds

Flipping through a huge book of crossword puzzles and a few other different kinds of puzzles I bought last year, I came upon one called "Nine of Diamonds." I didn't get very far, but I thought to myself after looking at the answers that maybe I could make some puzzles like this. This first one was the product of a half-hour or so. I made the unique grid in Paint and made a separate grid without numbers to fill in via computer. I use Word to make puzzles. If it's a crossword, I just use a table (13x13, or whatever size) and fill in the black squares with black. This time, since the squares are diamonds, I made a blank diamond grid and set the letters to be behind the picture so it would look like the letters would be filled in to the grid. It was kind of tough to do, since I was trying to put the 2-letter pieces in wrong (backwards), but I eventually got used to how it should be. Eventually, I want a webpage filled with these types of puzzles, and I will begin making a site for them, but it's not up yet. I wonder who created this type of puzzle. Anyway, if you want to try it out, here's a PDF link of the first one with instructions on how to solve it. Let me know how you fare if you decide to do it. http://www.atari2600land.com/9ofdiamonds/nine1.pdf
