Pac-Land

I can't do the trampoline in trip 1 round 3. Every time I try to do it, I end up in the water. I tried a running start, I tried everything and I can't do it. So I looked at a YouTube video and saw someone successfully complete the trampoline jump and I'm like "HOW DID HE DO THAT?!" It's just so frustrating that I can't figure out how. I tried jumping on the trampone. I even read the manual and figured out that pressing the lever causes you to run faster, so I did that and I still couldn't do it. I tried and tried and I just can't do it.

EDIT: OK, I finally figured it out. You press the BUTTON repeatedly to float in the air. That's the dumbest controller use I've ever heard of. So I completed Trip 1. And died immediately in Trip 2 round 2. And why is the default controls using the buttons to move left and right and the "lever" (which is the d-pad) to jump? That's also dumb. I figured out how to use the magic shoes, though, by repeatedly pressing jump you can go to the top of the screen that way. Now that I think I know how to play this thing, I hope to one day complete Trip 2...

This game had a very unusual control panel, but you didn't really know it was unusual at the time because you weren't as accustomed to the D-pad and 2 buttons config for platformers.

While the "float in the air" mechanic seems ridiculous at first, I found that I only really thought that because I'd never seen it before. After I figured out how to do it, I kind of appreciated the variation and even sought out the Namco Museum discs for PS1 just to have another way to play this game. Although with all the configuration options in MAME that is probably my favorite way to play. There are quite a few secrets buried in there, so find some hints online or just the MAME "history" of the game to unlock all it has to offer. Save states help with this one too.
