My thoughts on Super Mario Maker

When I was a kid, I designed my own Mario games on paper. But now that I have Mario Maker, it seems a little...underwhelming. The box says you can make levels from Super Mario Bros. 3. But I can't. You have to wait god knows how long before you can do that. I already know how to use the stupid level editor. Let me get to the SMB3 stuff, please. I don't need to know any more. I guess Nintendo overestimated the stupidity of people. It says on Tuesday, I can create water levels. Whoopee. I WANT TO MAKE SMB3 LEVELS! Not waste my time making piddling SMB levels. I'll probably run out of room on my 8GB Wii-U before I can make SMB3 games. I wonder if I can move the game data and levels to a USB card. I played this game for two hours and made four levels. That should be enough stupid "tutorial time" to let me unlock stuff. So this is why I make my SMB levels really short, the default length. Another thing that bothers me is you can't play the levels you made one right after another. Why not? And apparently they even took liberties with the SMB stuff. I don't remember enemies coming out of ? blocks or getting to ride Lakitu's cloud in the original Super Mario Bros. game. As much as I love the original SMB, I would like a little more variety now that I spent two hours on it.

Placing blocks and then erasing them shouldn't help if it unlocks stuff by the day. I didn't want to break my Wii-U by having it have an incorrect day, and then if I unlocked everything and then put the date back to today, my game would be all messed up?

I believe there's a patch out for Mario Maker that makes unlocks quicker. However, I have to wait after work to dig into this game to confirm that.

Yes, the patch is supposed to mean the unlocks happen faster (assuming you use all of the pieces you have).

But I agree it's frustrating - especially since the various videos etc show how to use stuff even though it's not unlocked.

I'm still waiting for the sublevels to be activated.

As long as you have updated the game (which I assume you have), it doesn't unlock by the day. The game simply gives you a prediction on when your goods will be delivered, I am assuming based upon how fast you are building. If you build quickly, the "ETA of tomorrow" will end up arriving five minutes from the time the message appears. So, spend a few minutes filling up the map randomly, blow it all away, and do it again. Make sure to place any new items you get into the map so the game registers that you have used them, I believe this is also something that's tracked and whether you unlock new awards or not.

I believe the sublevel ability is the last or second to last thing unlocked. If you want to unlock it now, create a new map and do what I explained above, you will have it very shortly depending on how much you have already unlocked.
