Octopus sucks

I don't understand people. They say they want the octopus in the game, and yet when I ask for help trying to get the stupid thing to move, they all go silent and won't help me at all. It's like activity is nil over there. I asked for help at the videopac.nl forums, two days later, absolutely no response. Life just isn't fair. If you want to help, I uploaded the code to my site here: http://www.atari2600...ub/agosub22.a48 in hopes that the stupid octopus will move the way I wanted it to, similar to the code for the sonar ping at the title screen, have a variable act as a timer, and have another one be the direction, so that the octopus will move. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong. It's not unusual for me to butcher my code all up. Since nobody helps, i try stuff on my own and often times it ends up worse than what I had before.

People want an octopus in your game are not programmers so don't expect them to help you.

In GoSub 2600, the octopus comes too early makes the game unplayable, I barely finish the level 1 and cannot complete level 2. I'd put the octopus at level 3.
