Christmas in Japan
Several years ago, I chained some days off around Christmas time to give myself 9 days in a row off. Sadly, I wasted it. I took naps and just played Skyrim. That was it. Nobody to hang out with, nobody new to meet, no social activity. Nothing. In retrospect, it felt like 9 whole days were just wasted where I could have done something much more fulfilling.
So, I decided to change that for this year. Instead of sitting around the house, where everybody is busy with everyone else, I thought. "Hmm, how about fulfill a bucket list item?" My inner introvert told me to go to a place that does not celebrate Christmas.
Japan doesn't Celebrate christmas. It's more like Valentine's day there, or families go eat KFC. What a perfect destination! I love Japan, having visited it before in 2008. The only downside is I chose the most humid week ever to go. Not this time. The weather's a bit warmer in Japan than in Minnesota. My hotel will be in Akihabara, where you die and go to electronics shopping heaven. There's also a small side trip where I get to see Mount Fuji and take the bullet train back.
Part of me still wants to take a small day trip to Osaka to see what the fuss is all about.
The important thing is, that I won't be sitting around the house taking naps. I'll be on the other side of the world with a ton of things to do & see.
