New Sega Console Ideas!

SSG

I Think Sega should get back in the console wars. I think they are getting away from what they originally were. A game company who made Kick Ass games and told people who didn't like it "Up Yours!" So i have an idea on hey they can do this.

Part 1: Money

I think they should make a near low end cost for a game console, But not go skimpy one the Graphics. They Will need Blast Processing like in the 90s. So it should be released for around $200 - $250 for the basic package, It would have the starting price near the Wii U.

Part 2: Advertising

Everybody hates add on TV. Well I thing Ads for this console should be directed to the Teen Ages 12 and up. Like they did in the old days, This idea makes the older kids get SEGAs which if the older kid has a younger brother that looks up and trys to mimic their older bro to want one also.

Part 3: Specification

These specification are compared for the Wii U.

The Wii U has a 1.24GHz IBM PowerPC 750 Tri- Core Processor. Which is semi fas for gaming. Also the Wii U has a AMD Radion HD grapics and 2 GB of RAM.

These are the specifications i think the new Sega would Need,

Processor: At least a 2 GHz Processor

Graphics: Same as Wii U

RAM: 2-4 GB of RAM for speed and for a smooth gameplay.

Memory: at least a 150 GB HDD

Part 4: Models

Sega should release some different models of the game console.

Basic: Everything with a 100 GB HDD

Adv: Everything with a 250 GB HDD

Elite: Everything with a 350 GB HDD

Part 5: The Most important thing... Games

I Think SEGA should be backwards compatible with the Dreamcast.. But thats just me.

SEGA should have a type of Virtual Console where you can download SMS, Genesis + Addons,Saturn and DC games. Also SEGA should make its titles (example.. Sonic, Shinobi, Total War, ETC...) Available only to the Sega console. Also make older Japan only games available on it. Also invite games like Madden, Call of Duty, and Battlefield to be ported to it. Also Bring some kids games.

Part 6: Naming and Looks

They say looks aren't everything. Well F that. The New Console should look like it is something from outer space like the SMS and Genesis. Also It needs to have a cool name like the Dreamcast or Genesis, but not like a Dreamcast 2 or Genesis 2, It needs its own Unique Name.

Part 7: Rumors.

A lot of times i have been searching into the Vast space of information called the Internet to find leaked information on Sega and I end up on a bogus page about a new Sega Console with a made up release date,

Here are a few:

http://www.zoklet.net/bbs/showthread.php?t=249870

http://blogdudesvariousreviews.blogspot.com/2012/07/sega-coming-out-with-new-console.html

http://oxcgn.com/2011/01/26/segas-console-return-is-not-only-plausible-it-could-be-imminent/

They are everywhere Google "New Sega Console.

Part 8: Why?

Sega dosen't realize that there is a huge fanbase dreaming of a NEW Sega console. Lots of us retro SEGA Gamers which they can bring back their views on the video game marketplace. If SEGA would release a new console allot of us would buy it because we are loyal or just plain out LOVE Sega stuff like I do. Allot of people will look at me and tell me your 17 you have no idea what your talking about. I know that I've gotten that statement allot. But hear me out this would be the best thing ever, and I believe it will spice things up in the 8th Gen Console War.

Part 9: ....

Want your opinions on this topic. I love the criticism I get on topics. This needs to be Debated out for people to read and then when we get a final draft it needs to be sent to SEGA!! Maybe together we can help persuade them to make one. I don't have my doubts that they are making a Prototype as we debate. But its been 13 Years since a new home Sega console was released and Honestly I'm tired of Sony this, Microsoft That. So Lets Get Started On This Topic!!!!

Sega should remove their games from all consoles. Then release a new top of the line console with their own dl service for their old games. And remake some of the classics. And make a new GOOD sonic game.

Yeah. I totally agree. And Sega should make some new Unique titles as well.

Yep, and add compatibility for dreamcast games :)

We have all of these ideas and there are endless ways Sega can go with them.

awesome ideas! sega could finally start making their OWN games for their OWN systems, and not have to make games for other consoles in shame :P

yeah i totally agree. Sega would have more Console only titles than other consoles

I don't want a new Sega console. The current generation of consoles haven't even lived up to their promise. How many 1080p games are on the PS3? Where are the killer games (besides Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 ) that utilize the move? Sorcery! was supposed to be that game and it's been reduced to a discount title because of it's length of gameplay. The PS3 is considered such a pain in the ass to program for that Skyrim gets the shaft on updates. Phantasy Star Online players get more updates on Private Servers than Skyrim players get on PS3. That game is like 13 years old. Our Dreamcast players get BETTER TREATMENT than current gen players.

Do you really want Sega to go forth into the BS realm of Trophy or Achievement support for another fail operating system for a console? Do you remember unlocks, you were rewarded for good gameplay by getting a new character or car to play with. From a complete game. Now you just buy a more expensive version of the game to get unlocks. The game is usually rushed, and they need to do patch updates to fix the thing after they have your sixty bucks.

I can honestly say that Sega has had a good run at console manufacturing. Buy a Dreamcast, support the new Dreamcast games and developers. Populate the Dreamcast Online servers. Sega doesn't need to be dragged into the mud of another console race. If you want to support Sega even more, than buy a Vita for Phantasy Star Online 2, or wait for spring when they publish Aliens: Colonial Marines.

My Colecovision has no problem playing Zaxxon AND Donkey Kong. I like that. I don't mind Sega not manufacturing consoles. You could rattle off sales numbers, but to be honest I don't think any current console manufactures are doing so hot financially.

Just my 12 cents. :)

sega_SHARK,

I like and respect your opinion. I believe it is still possible for SEGA to make a new console. But I have devised a new idea.

What If Sega Made a Flashback Type Console. Where you can play the best of the best Sega Games from all of the consoles. Like the Top 5 games released. But include a SD card that is capable to hold ROMs to increase the amount of Games. I am not looking for a new PS3/Xbox 360 type console. I think Sega should make its own type of console where it can have its own Virtual Console. And it should include the creativity that Sega Consoles have unlike newer consoles.

Isn't that what they do now - except without the huge overhead of yet another console to support? They basically milk their catalogue of existing games and publish them on any platform they choose.

Sega flashback would be a cool idea, but I don't think a lot of Sega Fans are casual gamers. I would like to think that most Sega fans are hardcore, own Sega systems and collect for them. A flashback would be just buying the same game over again. Maybe a handheld. The handheld idea has already been brought up in the Dreamcast Talk forums. I don't think any intellectual property owner wants one of those DEMON SD cards in their system. lol

Sega was KING of console creativity. The DC alone had/has internet support, motion control (fishing controller) and VMUs. How cool was that to be able to select Football plays in secret on the VMU?

They wouldn't do an SD card, but It would be an internet download for games.

Sega would be best to do a tablet style portable like the WiiU, but with no console. It would have an hdmi dongle to the back of your TV. Wireless controller, or portable.

Speculating about new Sega Consoles has caused so much trouble in the past that the whole Speculation area of the Dreamcast talk forums has been locked. Not a thread, the whole forum section.

The market for a portable might be there, might not be.

Good luck Sega Fans! I'm gonna go on PSO and look at the Christmas Trees! :)

I think it would be a better financial move to have the basic HDD be 100GB, the advanced be 200 instead of 250GB, and then 350GB for the elite. Instead of having the 150GB jump from basic to advanced and a smaller 100GB jump up to elite it would make more sense to have the larger jump from advanced to elite with the same markup as it was from basic to advanced. That way people will feel like they get 50GB more free if they purchase the elite model.

It's like sodas at fast food places. It will be a 50¢ increase from small to medium, but only 25¢ to go from medium to small, so the customer buys a large feeling like they got the best deal, and the fast food joint gets a shitload of profit because soda is insanely cheap. That's just my thinking.

Also, if they're not going to have Dreamcast backward capabilities I'd say just do without discs altogether. I'd rather buy games on SD cards or something like that which won't get scratched.

Actually, as long as I'm fantasizing, I would say no Netflix or any of that shit on my console. I want my game systems to be devoted to games and games only. No TV tuner, no apps, no Hulu or Neflix or any other movie service. If I wanted to be watching movies I wouldn't be using my game console, I'd be using a computer which is more powerful and will be better able to stream or download what I want to watch. Besides, nearly every other device out there does that stuff, so why would we need another one?

Oh, now that I think about it, no gimmicky controllers. The Wii was fun for about two months, then it was just annoying. The Wii U looks to be about the same, but is only good for solo playing because of the expensive controller. I played a multiplayer game on that thing and, guess what? the person with the fancy controller won 80% of the time. I hate touch screens and I hate interactive motion gaming. I want a nice controller that works and which I can get for $20 or less.

This is a lot longer than I was expecting. I was just going to comment on the HDD thing, but I got all passionate about it and kept writing. I would love to see a new Sega Console which remained true to its roots. I loath the consoles out today.

@MagnaFarce Without your input and criticim this wont go anywhere. That's the way everything goes in life. there is always a debate. I never looked at the HDD thing. its a great idea, but look at the PSP Go it didn't sell well. People like the feel of physically owning the games,

Link to comment

I love having physical items too. I'm very traditional in my tastes for media. I go out of my way to avoid downloads if I can. If I can buy something in a form where I can hold it, I will always go for that. I personally like cartridge games and never much cared for discs because carts are so rugged. If I had my way we'd be using carts again, but I don't see that happening, so I would opt for an SD card instead of a disc or download if I had to purchase something in digital form. That is, of course, unless they were to have Dreamcast backward capabilities, which I would love. If they would release a system which would play Dreamcast discs I would have no problem whatsoever with the system being disc-based.

I definitely agree that having physical copies is the way to go. I don't like the idea of everything being download only in the future, but I see things going that way. At least we'll always have the old consoles and games we can play, eh?

Right now is about the worst time to create a new console. There are too many new consoles out (Wii+WiiU, PS3, Xbox360, NDS+3DS, PSP+Vita, GP2 Wiz), and coming out (XBox 720, PS4, Ouya, Piston, Shield, Gamestick). Not to mention PCs and iOS & Android phones, tablets & other devices. A fragmented market is bad news for hardware makers as they end up chasing a small sliver of the total market. It's a little better for software makers (especially ones with recognizable franchises like SEGA), especially if they can release across multiple platforms.
