  1. Past hour
  2. I read "When is June they didn't mentioned that yet." 🀣
  3. Another totally exciting clip, even more so, because it's slightly out of focus , all of the three bridges that formed that I mentioned in the Pokey thread are not in the visible spots (of course):
  4. I personally am very interested in these questions. If you are, I recommend Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?, a movie by Michel Gondry in which he discusses these questions with Noam Chomsky, and also the great video game SOMA that tackles those problems in an interactive form.
  5. The second round of Ultimate cart soldering went much better, video will come up in my thread (I am messing this thread too much anyhow, sorry), I got only three tiny bridges, one on the FPGA, one on the SRAM, and one on one of the level shifters. The last two were stupidity triggered - I smeared the paste there with my finger when leaning on the board to spot place the FPGA (which was successful) and had to correct the two places manually. All in all, it's all about (a) the amount of paste applied (I was much more careful this time not to push the paste underneath the stencil), and (b) spot on placement of the chip on the first attempt. For (a) a thinner stencil should definitely help, for (b) you will say "use a pick and place tool", but it my case it's all about shaking hands than anything else. With all this, I do more or less know how to approach the Pokey job.
  6. ok- this story actually has a really funny ending. sighing and dejected, i unplugged everything starting with my PEB. I had to tilt my PEB to get to the power cord, so while i was at it i went ahead and reseated the cards inside (I have a disk controller, a parallel card, and a 32k card), and also reseated my speech synthesizer and firehose cable. the corpses of three ladybugs fell out somewhere along me doing this stuff, so i'm wonder if the fix was either me reseating the cards or the ladybug corpses, lol. Either way, I'm good to go; Cubit came right up on my FG99, which was the reason I went through this whole exercise in the first place. πŸ˜… What a morning!
  7. I just snagged a pic from online, that's not mine πŸ™‚ I didn't even notice the metal clip!
  8. No worries. So a side3 and u1mb combo (the latter being the internal expansion you are likely referring to) gives you a lot of functionality. U1mb gives you a huge amount of extras, on top of just a ram expansion). However, sounds like the avg or perhaps subavg carts, (latter being the latest one) is what you are after. Totally depends what you wanna do with your Atari, what you wanna run, etc etc.
  9. Oh that's an interesting approach. Do you think the results for this could be improved with better statistical data, or is it a dead end? * Can you give an example of an NTSC-50 ROM. I don't think I've come across one of those before.
  10. IIRC PAL consoles got mono output, but that's something the CPU cannot see. There is a slight difference in CPU clock speed. This is used by some ARM games to detect PAL consoles (developed by @SpiceWare). But this only works because there is a 2nd clock in the ARM, which can be used to compare to the 6507 CPU speed. Besides that, I don't think there is anything usable.
  11. Thank you for the info on power supplies / down steppers. Bought one of those JGO AC adapters and eagerly awaiting my Japanese Neo Geo CD. What's the least expensive cartridge based Neo Geo? I don't care if it's a recycled arcade board or all an new hardware clone. Just something cheap enough to use on a regular basis without worrying about wear and tear.
  12. This is the sort of thing Alternate Reality could have done with rather than the line drawings + rainbow that many of the establishments actually got.
  13. Stella has two options which try to detect PAL-60 and NTSC-50 games based on the color codes used. It uses some statistical data of PAL and NTSC games. But the hit rates are not very impressive, therefore the options are disabled by default.
  14. Technically, at any moment, you're working with only two 16K banks. One bank is fixed and is called "Bank 0". The other bank is switchable, if you're using a bankswitchable cartridge configuration. If there's no bankswitching involved, then your cartridge is 32K, and you only have "Bank 1" to work with. Because Bank 0 is fixed, any code or data in Bank 0 is accessible at all times by code in any of the other banks.
  15. With much sadness, my original 2017 FinalGROM99 cart finally bit the big one today, I think. I simply can't get it to load no matter what I do- it was working a couple months ago. Are these carts or boards still for sale? I have the shell and an SD card, but alas my board is deader than a hammer.
  16. Playing the demo right now and having fun, thanks alot! 😊
  17. Just to make sure: My above "Like" refers to this: And not to this: πŸ˜‰ Really great that you can continue Vectrex playing!
  18. And the mandatory CAR file header is sixteen bytes long, so 65,536 + 16 = 65,552. So the error message might be a little misleading.
  19. Yes, 2^16 = 65536 (=64kB) So 65,552 exceeds the permitted size by 16 bytes please attach both files, maybe a problem with headers and correct type recognition?
  20. Today

    Movie Cart

Oh thats frustrating. I'm trying to remain very consistent if that helps. Thanks so much for your patience
  22. I was thinking of going back and buying a CIB copy Ghosts 'N Goblins for the NES. How much should I expect to pay for that?
  23. Based in Greenford, west London, RetCon is an annual festival of retro gaming put on by the Greenford Computer Club since 2018. There are guests delivering talks, and a hall stacked with actual retro hardware playing a huge variety of games. Several of the Club members are huge Atari enthusiasts, with a range of systems including the 2600, 800XL, 7800, ST/STE and Jaguar/JagCD (the latter being my pride and joy, and I'll probably have the Jag GameDrive running on the day). Recently announced on the Facebook page is the news that SAM CoupΓ© stalwart, Rob Evans (aka wubsoft) will be giving his latest project - Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh - its public debut at RetCon this year. It's a tribute to the Atari ST conversion, coded by Peter Johnson and published by Imagine Software in 1998, and will support the SAM Mouse interface to ensure quick reflexes can win the day. 24. Banks only apply to the cartridge, while VRAM (video RAM) is located inside the ColecoVision console. Once you place data in VRAM, it stays there until you change it. Switching to a different bank does nothing to VRAM all by itself. EDIT: To answer your sprite question, the VDP will always display all 32 sprites in the sprite attribute table during every screen refresh cycle unless you place the y=208 marker somewhere in that table. So if the number of sprites to display on screen varies as your game progresses (adding/removing projectiles, or whatever) then you just have to manage your usage of the sprite attribute table properly. EDIT #2: "However, CVBasic currently does sprite flicker by default (rearranging sprites on the screen), so you need to invoke SPRITE FLICKER OFF to use the 208 value." Ah, so where CVBasic is concerned, "sprite flicker management" means "automatic sprite attribute table management". Good to know.
  25. Hope a Coleco ZYX is brewing. I really dig the style!
  26. I got the same cart in 2008 and the plastic around the contacts got broken, so I used some black tape to fix itπŸ˜… The cart did not fit well in a 7800 slot, so it was probably just a question of time when it breaks... Later I got the version from the pic, which is PAL as well but kept my Winterjagd of course πŸ€™
