RJ
Someone on Facebook responding to the Retroist's "Galaga" show post called him Bob. Whoops, cover semi-blown. Would that be like calling Superman "Clark"?
Rob2586
Good luck Rob, I'll be listening to this one of yours as well, my 16 bit knowledge is sorely lacking. I hope to hear more Retro Junkies, but it sounds like Landon has his hands full for the time being (hopefully not literally). Hey Ferg! I just heard your shout out on episode 20. Thanks a lot, my friend! We'll be sure to return the favor on episode 2 tomorrow night. Take it easy!
ferghead
Someone on Facebook responding to the Retroist's "Galaga" show post called him Bob. Whoops, cover semi-blown. Would that be like calling Superman "Clark"? I just looked at that, the person who made the comment was my childhood friend Dave. He isn't listed as liking the Retroist or my podcast, but I'm pretty sure he knows that I do one. He may have been talking to me for some reason, but we are from NJ like the Retroist, albeit Central Jersey, but who knows.
RJ
Finally axed AllGen Gamers from my subs list. Was I the only one here still listening to them? The show was nearly 2 hrs, & I fell asleep during the middle hour. I went back to hear what I missed, it was a bunch of YouTube talk. The oldest game mentioned was PS1 Brave Fencer Musashi, & that was only in passing. Time to change the name to "CurrentGen Gamers". I can just tell they'll be all about PS4 & Xbox One when they release. Ugh!
S1500
Finally axed AllGen Gamers from my subs list. Was I the only one here still listening to them? Yes, you were. I figured let you be the canary for that 'cast. Heck, I might even consider re-subbing to Retronauts just to see where all this money has gone to. In the Now You're Playing with Podcast Ep, a female cohost said "Ninja ninja ninja!" and I can confirm it was in reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pinball. I played it again last night and it says it. And still, it is easily the worst pinball game I ever played, and I've played Checkpoint(also from Data East).

Their knowledge of anything pre-NES is a joke, but I find them fairly funny so continue to listen. Question about RGR: Am I the only person who finds Scotts constant interuptions/interjections during interviews to be extremely irritating? They were interviewing Rebecca Heineman, who had some cool stories about phone phreaking, and the guy couldn't stop interupting to talk about himself. As a long time listener, I've heard all his stories before. He needs to let the guests talk.

Nope, I'm with you there. & if it wasn't you, one other listener posted something similar earlier in this thread. Scott seems to be a name-dropper & likes to mention "good friend David Crane" or someone as such, attempting to add credibilty to the podcast. "oh, we know/interviewed THIS guy, we must be great!" A few RGR shows back, SoCal shut Scott down during one of Scott's loooong ramblings- it was great.
S1500
A few RGR shows back, SoCal shut Scott down during one of Scott's loooong ramblings- it was great. I remember during one episode you could hear UKMike repeatedly pronounce someone's name over & over & over again like he was a kid bored in class, while SoCal or Scott was talking. With listening to RGR, we become battle-hardened listeners. The topic could be the 1941 arcade game, and Scott could go on a 20 minute rant or story (yes, 20 whole minutes, not a sarcastic figure) about the landing gear on a P-51 Mustang. RJ
IIRC sometime in the last ep. or 2, Scott mentioned "in passing" he was instrumental in launching a satellite or somesuch aerospace project. Shades of Shane Monroe, there. I'll never forget the time, around when they 1st started the "revamp" podcast, there were some audio probs. & someone (may have been here on AA) mentioned it. SoCal was very polite about it, but Scott responded with "hey, go eat a dick." I thought wow, what a great way to acknowledge/respond to the listeners (not!)...& a great way to alienate them. At the time, they'd just started & surely wanted all the listeners they could get. Edited July 24, 2013 by RJ
Cynicaster
We all have our idiosyncrasies. Do I agree with everything that gets said, and do I love every single approach that is used? Of course not. But far be it from me to nitpick a crew that gives me 5+ hours of retro-gaming content a month, without ever missing a month or mysteriously vanishing for extended periods of time. RJ
Well, thats just it right there, isnt it? Is it "x" hrs of retrogaming content, or is it the hosts going on about themselves, or YouTube, or other unrelated stuff? Is it silly ridiculous behavior, or an excuse for the hosts to cram as many F-words as they can in an hour, or discuss current-gen news & items in their supposed "retro"-named podcast? Thats the whole idea behind this while thread, to weed out the junk, & get members "turned on" (hyuk, get it?) to the good 'casts & warn others of the bad. I realize most of these are produced for free, but "free" means nothing when quality suffers. I'd rather listen to a show of interesting, full-retro content then YouTubers trying to outcuss each other while talking about the latest waste of $60 or all the Steam sale games they just added to their backlog. S1500
Speaking of out-cussing each other, I tried to listen to Jerry T's latest podcast. I made it about 9 minutes. He had only 1 person in his chatroom during the recording. It seems that the media empire is being made by others...
PFL
With regards to RGR if Scott was to take a month or two off I reckon the show length would half and nobody would notice much loss of content. The guy's a mouthpiece. I tend to just skip his rambling ego masturbation monologues. When the show first started UK Mike was a lot calmer too. SoCal's the only guy worth listening to half the time. There's a guy with a passion for the subject and an understanding of how to interview people.
Chuck D. Head
I actually kind of like Scott's rambling stories, but for god's sake, I only need to hear them once. What tends to happen is that he will follow up a ten minute rant with three minute recaps of said rant during interviews. That I can do without. And they call SoCal the Great Interrupter. The four of us (chris/tatton/becky/steve) plus one or two different guests go over each game on the list over the span of 5 episodes. 3 episodes are in the can and so far, they have been a blast to record.
