      A Simple DIY
So, I had one 4 switch wood grain VCS that wasn't working and another 4 switch VCS that was refurbished and working perfectly but it was a vader and the serial number sticker was removed from the bottom.  I wanted a refurbished 4 switch VCS with woody grain and serial number.  Then I had an idea.  Put the board from the good one inside the one with the nice outer case.

So, I watched this video on Youtube and thought, "That doesn't look so hard."  And so I tried it.  And it worked!  I swapped the boards and the switch bezels and Voila!  Behold, my beautiful, refurbished, 4 switch wood grain VCS!  Isn't she a real beaut?

The on/off switch is tight and all of the switches are tight.  The cartridges snap in tightly.  It plays great!  It's really in excellent condition.  I'm very excited to have it.  This was the kind of console we had in our house when I was kid, so it meant a lot to me to get this exact type.

So, you guys all have one, and now I have one, again, too!

    • Data doubtful, the clone probably just is triggering some weird coding the pirates on the clones did but it's hard to say without some evidence on a real system to back it up.  There are conversely some pirate carts that won't run on real FC hardware either despite being that format, since they coded their garbage to work on their system so it goes both ways.
    • The game was long ago not that costly, but neither was Little Samson. And I mean in perspective of now costly.  Back then it still was easily the rare few that were honestly licensed but rare so you'd see them go like $50-100.  It would be that, Bubble Bobble 2, Bonk's Adventure, Panic Restaurant, and a few others people would go stupid fingers over and legitamately so before the whole days of the games are money grift of scalpers, investors, and overall scum.   Once the money people saw it was rare, you start dangling stories, gem videos, and so on and it scares people, FOMO kicks in, and you see it spiral out of control ever increasingly so.  People get scared shitless... well dman that was $50 for years, but now it's $100,a nd some people are even paying $110 now... I bet it'll be $150 by summer.....and they make it $150 by summer as an insane self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.  It used to be about actual rarity, not even if the game was good or not, just rarity.  The issue with Snow Bros is it's a solid 8bit port, it's fun to play arcade style pick up n go fun, it's on Nintendo which is trendy decade over decade, and it was a lower run post-SNES release.  It's a toxic combo that put it into that level of pain. The game probably should have stayed in the $50-100 range but that ship sailed.  The real rares, the sub-10000 copies stuff or somewhere in the toilet with the unlicensed or removed licensed stuff from the Action 52 and Maxi to the Stadium Events hype, those hsould be the heaviest of priced things, yet they're not.  Licensed off the rack stuff is which bucks reality into feelings, manipulation, and fear mongering.  I mean hell look at like Zelda, no reason that hsould be $25-30 it has millions of copies but it is.  Pokemon, any of them from the pre-DS era to keep it simple range form $50(R/B) to $200(Emerald GBA) loose because of awful antics, despite they all have millions of copies to get.

    • Ah, okay at the time I originally typed that up, you had just the one link in place. And sure if you were find with the extension hanging out, then I don't see any reason you couldn't do that. I was thinking along the lines of keeping it all contained within the cartridge itself and still allow easier access to remove the SDcard when you wanted to change movies.   I currently have the old Tom Selleck movie 'Runaway' encoded on mine. I did some 4:3 aspect correction and cropping in my video editor before handing it over the converter that the is used for these carts. It came out well but the audio is a bit scratchier than I'd like. I might see about trying to encode it again in the future to see if I can find a good setting for me to help with that bit.
    • Ys 1&2 is a strange one and I've enjoyed so many odd copies of it over the years.   PCE-CD originally when I got a Duo around 97, then... Sega Master System (no 2 here) Nintendo DS Ys pre-eternal PC WIndows Ys Eternal Famicom   This is that thing I mentioned last year I bought, where I found a brand new style of aliexpress based multicart that finally doesn't kill off save games if you have more than one because it uses smart chips and coding, not a crap battery and SRAM.  It has all 3 Ys on the Famicom english patched (With a few other gems and gems/heavies too.)  I've been nitpicking the FC one a bit and it's fun, quite fun.   It's interesting because each iteration is a bit if not widely different in ways down to how the maps work, so it's like a new game but not in some releases that keeps it strangely fresh.
    • I wouldn't go that far, the Nomad was a blue hued a little but it wasn't a blur factory like Game Gear and Lynx, nor was it off resolution so some text etc got jacked up like the TE/GT sadly did.  The Nomad isn't ideal but it's more than serviceable if it hasn't aged into a sorry state.  The one I had was pre-moded by an incompetent, so I had to fix the current and got a basic composite LCD put in, didn't go all insane-o like the gameboy stuff with iphone style panels these days.  Honestly, I like it as such, it like the Supaboy S/Black style softens the visuals in a screwball way it blends things like a solid CRT of the 80s would have so there's an appeal there.
