Job applications are designed by the same people who came up with the concept of making you answer prompts instead of asking a representative- then think "wow this is a great idea, there's no way their question is gonna fall outside of these 3 selections"

The other day,  I was looking for my rock and roll,  ya know,  and I'm lookin' all over...I can't seem to find it...But I'm thinking I Wanna Rock (Rock) ..So I keep looking,  and I figure the Heart of Rock and Roll is still beatin' ...Of course, and I want to Rock and Roll All Nite even if it's Old Time Rock & Roll,  It's Still Rock and Roll to me, You Rock Lobster...And then I figure it out.   Some knuckleheads built a city on it!    No Stevie Wonder I couldn't find it!
      3. bent_pin

They should have stuck with rock and skipped the roll.

So I decided to take the plunge and give new atari a chance.  I like the Retro Products.  Good on them.  I went to the website, signed up,  got the code (15% off - ALLEGEDLY)...I put 11 Items in my "Bag",  which I assume is a Shopping Cart, and there's no way to CHECK OUT!

The "Bag" doesn't scroll (mouse or arrows) and only shows the top 3 products...I can't even see my total!   If there's a way to check out I can't find it.  I've been all over that website!  I contacted them so we'll see what they say.

ATM I guess "Atari" doesn't want my money.

      3. Hydro Thunder

        Well that's a duh   lolol
I like the look of their stuff...but even with current insane inflation, some of that pricing is absolutely outrageous.
Especially the little desktop art things, yikes.
Also, I really loved RollerCoasterTycoon back in the day.  But not enough to have ever imagined the line of goodies they have available for it!  If only all my favorite games had that level of merch, jeebus.

    • I saw this other technique for re-soldering which seems interesting. Essentially going it backwards and putting solder boards on the ball, then soldering the ball-less BGA chip on top! I don't know if the PCBWay stencils or JCLPCB stencils can take direct heat though. Anyway I managed to get 3 chips re-balled, and they all stay on now. There are always 2-3 balls that do not attach correctly after heating up. So now I need to build some more Pokeymax 4 boards to put these on.   First though I've been playing with the SPDIF output. I used a ~420ohm resistor and a diode to connect it to a DAC and that works. However there is quite a lot of noise from the analogue connection. So I might use a TOSLINK instead. The PLT133/T10W (https://www.digikey.ch/en/products/detail/everlight-electronics-co-ltd/PLT133-T10W/2693977) looks pretty cheap and easy to use. I might make a little audio out board that has SPDIF phono port, analog phono ports and a TOSLink connector.
    • Cool, thanks a lot! So just for the record, this is how altirra.sh will now have to look like: #!/bin/bash filename="${2//\//\\}" set -- "$1" "$filename" "${@:3}" WINEDEBUG=-all /opt/homebrew/bin/wine64 ~/Downloads/Altirra-4.01/Altirra64.exe $@ Thanks again for being so responsive, @RetroCoder, programming for the Atari has become even more fun with your extension :)! P.S.: Let me know if you need me to build any mac binaries, happy to help if possible.

    • Yeah, looking at your pics again this was totally meant to be backlit... man, now I really want to know what it was used for!
    • @SoundGammon Or to say it another way
    • Hold SELECT on power-up for BASIC if keyboard isn't attached
    • Now I'm thinking...the fact thats its plastic allows it to be backlit! This totally makes sense for a show like CES, etc... Atari always had CRAZY displays set up.    This pic shows (in the middle) some kind of backlit box, looks like you load it from the slot on the top. The size is way too large for this missile command piece but it shows they did use stuff like this   It would also explain the lack of a real border around this missile command poster/item. They would want the picture pretty tight since the box itself already has a pretty thick border...   I'd say your best bet is to search through all the early 80s CES (and similar shows) that Atari attended and try like hell to find your Missile Command plastic poster in action. That would at least give it a back story, somewhat authenticating it 😃
    • According to mumsgrapevine, in the 1970s Jason was the 24th most popular baby name in Australia, on a list including both boy and girl names.  A UK baby names site lists it in the 18th spot among boy names for the 1970s.  You would think with the Friday the 13th movie conveniently being released in 1980 the name Jason would be every expecting parent's favorite for the 80s, but oddly no.  Surprised me for real to see that Liam is currently #1 in the US, if the nameberry site is accurate.
    • OK, I took some time to play all the games.  All the games are good, and some showcase some impressive programming technique, but I have a clear preference for one in particular, and so I cast my vote accordingly.   Good luck to all programmers!  It was a great effort from everyone.        -dZ.
