      PC POWER SUPPLY TROUBLESHOOTING

So, my laptop is showing that it's running on the battery.  It's plugged in to A/C power from the power strip.  The power strip has the red LED indicator lit showing that it has power.  I gently pushed the power plug into the computer to make sure it's snug, but still, the PC shows it's running on the battery.  What's the problem?

Can you guess?  Open the spoiler to see the solution.

Reminds me of the time I sang Rush's "Limelight" at a prom-like event. Yes, I sang karaoke in front of a crowd.
      2. bent_pin

I had a friend who was absolutely tone-deaf. He wanted to do karaoke, so I had him sing Bad Bad Leroy Brown. He had an absolute blast.
      3. retrorussell

Ha ha ha!  That's awesome!  Thanks Anthony!  I am definitely a better singer than that, fortunately.  And yes, I have done that particular song many times.

All I know is the refrain from singing.

    • Nice!   I also tried the EOTB. But the RAM  chip on the cart prevents it to be inserted to the adapter.   The original Alpine Games cart does fit in the adapter. But I wonder if the re-make with the larger plastics fit in.
    • The high bit ($80) is the sign of the whole number.   The remaining 7 bits are the exponent in base-100. But instead of using bit 6 ($40) as the sign they shift the range up so an exponent of zero is stored as $40. Values above that are positive exponents ($43 = 100^3 = 10^6) and values below are negative exponents ($3F = 100^-1 = 10^-2).   The FP package doesn't use the full exponent range (-64 to +63) instead stopping at -/+50 to represent exponent values from 10^-99 to 10^99.
    • So, I recently replaced the belt in my Sharp Twin Famicom which was quite a major achievement...for me at least. Then I went out to try to get some of the games on Famicom Disk that I wanted to try. And then I realized something. Some of these games are ridiculously expensive, and that is if you can find them at all!    I started researching if there were some sort of "Gotek" for the FDS and as it turns out there is. Probably nothing new to folks deep into the Famicom world, but I figured I would give it a try. I ordered these two items on Aliexpress and I thing it came up to around $45 total at the time of my purchase:   First, a cable needed for the Twin Famicom in my case:   https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806564110548.html   And then the unit itself:   https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805704857691.html     After some time waiting they both arrived today and man am I glad I made this purchase. I did have to update the firmware for the key itself which was stupid easy. And then I was off to the races. Everything is controlled via the navigation on the stick, from navigating folders and so on to going in and adjusting settings. It is really quite advanced. Nice little FDS animations when things are loading and flipping sides on disks. The screen is MIGHTY small which is really my only complaint since I am getting old and going blind. But otherwise what a nice presentation.   Here is the project page for this device BTW:   https://github.com/ClusterM/fdskey   And a little demo of it in action from Youtube that I found:       I have no affiliation with any of these people or the Aliexpress seller (other than the fact that I can recommend him as I actually got my stuff..hah!) but I can absolutely recommend this if you have an FDS. I grabbed the English translation pack of disk images found online (Google it, I will not share the link or files of course) and it's going to be mighty cool to play through the original Zelda FDS game translation!   I will mention if you have a Twin Famicom like I do and you grab one of these make sure you are on firmware v1.3. This shipped to me with v1.2 and it would disk error on loading half of the games. I grabbed the latest v1.3 which surprise surprise was updated for Twin Famicom support:   https://github.com/ClusterM/fdskey/releases   Popped the FDSKey.bin on the root of the microSD and powered on the console with it connected while depressing all four buttons. The upgrade went smoothly and even provided an option to delete the update file after completion which is nice.

    • HELP!!! Anyone here know how to add a starfield type of effect?  I've been trying to add one to the game's bonus round, and I just can't get anything I've tried to work.  I started with this bit of code from Steven Hugg's book, but it just causes scanline issues:   lda #2 sta ENABL ldy #0 .MoveStars sta RESBL adc Start,y bmi .Delay1 .Delay1 ror bcs .Delay2 .Delay2 ror bcs .Delay3 .Delay3 ror bcs .Delay4 .Delay4 iny ldx INTIM cpx #$89 bcs .MoreStars lda #0 sta RESBL     I've also tried just writing my own code for it, adding various delays and then writing to RESBL, and that had interesting results, but not what I'm looking for.  I couldn't get the random scatter effect of a good starfield.  I could release the game without it, but it sure would had a nice touch to the game if it's there.  Thanks!
